I am ordering an 2017 GLS450 and would like any thoughts on ordering the rear entertainment package. We have (2 kids 3 and 1 y/o). We wanted it but the dealer said it wasn't worth it b/c of iPads. I do not own and DVD's, is there an input for digital videos? I will post in the GLS forum as well. I would like to finalize our order ASAP and any input is much appreciated!

It's not worth it IMHO. They will be antiquated way quicker than the next gen ipad or movie format. Then you will just have hunking bricks on your seats. They are pretty large and ugly.
Get them iPads, save the money :-)

I did agree and did the same thing. Just hang a tablet in the back and you can load it with whatever you want and as they get older it can be a tablet to play games on. My 3.5 yr old is already pretty good at child games.

I have the rear entertainment system in the new GLE, which should be functionally similar to your 2017 GLS. The videos can be driven from a DVD in the front or the DVD player in the rear. And when you are parked, you can view the video from the front navi screen along with the rear seat entertainment screens.

I also have a usb stick loaded up with .mp4 and .MKV files to play from the USB slot in the console. Yes there is RCA inputs for digital video in the screens themselves. The system includes a set of lightweight headphones and 2 remotes. One additional benefit is we got powered headrest and lumbar on the passenger seat because of the prewiring required.

Compatible Video Formats
The Command Supplement Manual states:

The multimedia system supports the following video formats:

DVD-V
MPEG
WMV
M4V
AVI

Has anyone actually played any of these video files from a USB flash drive or SD card on the front LCD? If so, comments please.
