New GLE350d - Weird Hanging Prob Behind Honeycomb Bumper?

Picked up a new GLE350d today. Nice ride. Coming from a w204 C63 so definitely a different experience.

I noticed what looks like some sort of probe hanging from the front bumper. It's not fasted to anything. See attached photos.

Does anyone know what this is? Should it be there, or should it be fastened somewhere?

Many thanks

Could it be an outside temperature probe?

Went and checked mine out thoroughly and I do not have the same probe or sensor. My 350d is loaded so not sure what that could be and why you have it and I do not.

Thanks. Probably not attached properly. Will bring it by the dealer and see what they say.

Did you figure it out? My well equipped 400 doesn't have it. Could it be some temperature sensor for the diesel?

I have a service appointment setup in two weeks. Will bring it in and report back with what they say.

Ended up being a rivet - maybe from the dealer, maybe from the assembly line. Either way, just pulled it out.

Seriously? Just a rivet sitting there? Wow! Was there a hole left?

It was stuck behind two pieces of foam. Felt like an idiot in front of the service adviser. No hole or any damage, but was probably the longest rivet I've ever seen... about 6 inches.

WHY should you feel like an idiot? somebody at the plant dropped it and didn't retrieve it. i would have asked the tech to ensure that whatever that rivet is supposed to hold together actually has a rivet in it! ron
