Newer is not always better. Personally, I think MB screwed up with the redesign of the front end and cabin. I prefer the headlights and grill of the current generation. I hate almost everything about the new interior. I like the concept of the dual 12" screens, but not how the display looks like they "stuck" it onto the dash, not to mention that faux A/C vent on the right side, the ugly door panels and those stupid grab handles. Ugh! I do like the dual thumb pads on the steering wheel. I will NOT be buying another Coupe, unless the subsequent generation improves aesthetically. For this upcoming generation, spy shots indicate the same front end as the SUV. The interior will likely follow suit as well. Below is what the new SUV and Coupe interior should have looked like. Notice how the lines have one continuous flow. The doors look like a continuation of the dash. This is elegant and refined.

Yes! And that white one made me think I should be in a sterile operating room. Those people obviously don’t have kids. And then the brown looked like Gucci and Prada had an illegitimate child in there but the outside of the black one was nice!
After I went and looked at e new GLE the grab handles didnt look that bad but they didn’t seem to serve a real purpose. The square vents in the center are nice but those round ones do look better. I think they are trying to give it a little more rugged look since it’s an SUV.
But I do agree that that faux air vent is just dumb looking. It’s like they just got to the end of the dash and just quit.

Yeah, it certainly is blinding. And, in case you were wondering, it's not croco grain. It's "real" crocodile skin. Must have cost a fortune. Obviously, these are all too ostentatious for my taste. I just wanted to show the extremes to which one can customize the interior. Put something like this in your car, and you'll be forever trying to convince the police that you're NOT a pimp.
I think the grab handles are a blatant copy of the Porsche. That's the only purpose they serve. There's no denying Porsche makes great cars/SUV's, but the Cayenne still looks like a big, brown turtle. Ugh! I wouldn't be caught dead driving that ugly thing. I could probably learn to live with the GLE's grab handles, but the rest of the interior is an abomination! I'm sure plenty of people will disagree, and that's fine. To each his own, I guess. However, some people will convince themselves that it actually looks good, just because they like the rest of the vehicle. I was almost guilty of that myself. I came close to buying the new Lexus RX 350. I always hated that humongous grill. It looks like some kind of futuristic freight train. But I kept trying to convince myself it wasn't that bad (knowing I was lying to myself). Luckily, I didn't fit. I have long legs and my knees were actually rubbing against the steering wheel. Then, I discovered the GLE.

I think it launches quite well. When it goes you can really feel, plus I like the exhaust sound.
If I would want for something I would have liked some more torque a little earlier, as in comfort mode theres almost always a downshift lag. Previous car was a BMW M550d, so I might be spoiled though.

Just finished a test drive. Very secure and low, pleasant and tolerable wind noise at 70mph.
Assembly required. If you have assembled IKEA furniture, this is similar. I reversed one of the bike carriers so the frame securing arm can be operated from each side of the vehicle. There is a couple of inches of clearance to the liftgate. The feet of the fairing sit on the moonroof glass. If I spend time to finesse the installation, I can probably move the entire rack+carrier assembly rearward enough to use the moonroof in full tilt and slide function. Panorama roof would probably not operate under any circumstances with this rack and carrier system.
Thule ProRide XT bike carrier
Thule Evo Wingbar 135 crossbars
Thule Evo Raised Rail feet
Thule AirScreen fairing (I think size L)
