I am interested in what it takes to bring a Canadian GLE350d and how much it cost? Has anyone here done it?

Would sooner buy a used Cayenne diesel before buying a GLE300d.

You might want to check first to see whether MB USA will honour the warranty.
It is stated on the website here, that a Canadian market vehicle isn't quite the same: http://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content/...or_canada.html

Unless 2017 changed for gle, no prior mb sold in CAN is legally eligible for legit importation and registration in US. MB pricing with exchange is favorable and could yield a flood of exports from CAnada, but MB likely purposely builds the CAN market cars without tire pressure monitoring systems that meet US requirements. In short, the wrong type infers rotational speeds and calculates variances using abs sensors and give different warnings, the us requires direct pressure readings. No Registered Importer can fix this for you, nor can a dealer, as far as is known likely there's coding or hardware issues beyond adding wheel sensors. I know a RI looking into it this year in discussions with NHTSA on the subject. Further as of this year the Feds won't accept any easy substitute system, at least so far. If the RI community can't certify the car as required for you, you're SOL on an import. Any RI says they can and brushes off or does not know about TPMS types and specs for your car is not a legit RI, stay away

That's strange they won't allow the other system since all 4 of my Audis (2013-2015) use wheel speed sensors mounted to the control arm to measure rotational speed rather than individual sensors in the wheel itself. I wonder why MB can't.

It depends upon the system, and NHTSA has a list of approved and rejected cars that explicitly includes MB products as not conforming - yet a number of Audi products sold in CAN conform (though I presume yours were US sold cars). Again, the maker has the power to adapt their systems for cost and other reasons - or, perhaps, for the very strategic reason directed at preventing easy US import. There's no getting around it until someone, like an enterprising RI, cracks NHTSA on approving an alternative strategy that works. For now, the explicitly prohibited models face this big hurdle that MB won't out of kindness gladly help you overcome, as summarized in NHTSA's own language:

Any such vehicle that was not originally manufactured with an FMVSS No. 138-compliant TPMS cannot be imported under vehicle eligibility numbers VSA-80 or VSA-81 unless the vehicle has been retrofitted, prior to entry into the United States, with a TPMS identical to, and with the same part number as, the TPMS installed on vehicles manufactured for sale in the United States by the original manufacturer (OEM).
... and the RI is able to prove, in the conformity package that it submits to NHTSA to obtain release of the DOT Conformance bond, that such a system has been installed. The only acceptable proof would be an invoice from a franchised dealership or authorized repair facility of the original manufacturer showing that an OEM TPMS has been installed, along with a photograph of the vehicle’s dash showing the TPMS telltales illuminated.
