Now it makes sense. I don't usually see a lot of MBs with halogent lights at night. The ones that do, usually drive very slow.
This is what I came up with, to remember the different Classes of MB Sh@t :
A class - Almost Sh@t
B class - Basic Sh@t
C class - Complete Sh@t
E class - Expensive Sh@t
S class - Super Sh@t
D-Deplorable, can be added to any of the above Sh@t

QUOTE=baobay;6945623]LOL ... I should say I drive a GLSh@t 450 with SH@T lights...only drivable during the day...at night you drive at your own risk...
Roni07 10-18-2016 08:34 PM

It actually makes for a good day-time vehicle.

QUOTE=baobay;6945627]Went on my dealer's website and they have a GLS 450 MSRP little over $83k...without lighting package....I wonder which poor sap they'll sell it to....for $83k you get the same lights on a 1977 Chevy....actually the lights on the Chevy are most likely better.
baobay 10-18-2016 08:40 PM

Not a bad daytime vehicle at all...maybe I should spend another $80k on another one with the lighting package for nighttime driving. I did some research and there are no luxury suv's that have halogen lights as standard equipment

LED is standard in NZ

I'm from NZ. It's funny to read this post cuz our GLEs have all necessary options as standard, including the intelligent LED headlight, all security and high tech features are standard too. Audi and BMW here though doesn't. i can't imagine a GLE with yellow headlights omg.

davezaristo 10-22-2016 03:46 AM

It is pretty ridiculous how mb packages the cars here in the US, especially the GLE. Whoever makes that call for the US market should be fired immediately.

That's great. I'm sure you are paying a whole lot more For the vehicle. I know for a fact that in CDN the same vehicle as in the US is $10K and up more. My neighbour bought a Subaru from the US and brought it to CDN and saved over $30K. Different countries have different options. I know in CDN they add different and or more option and inflate the price quite a bit. I noticed MB USA has basic options and the price appeals to many. But as soon as you walk in the dealer and want inteligent adaptive lights, Navigation the price goes up by $7K. That's how we ended up with a $70K sh@t vehicle. MB won't Package the back up camer we still had to pay $600 in addition. The cheapest Car out there has a standard back up camera but not MB. For me I've come to terms with the fact that MB is nothbworth it. I'm oknoaying a lot but I expect a lot too. I want a quality reliability and o issues like my Camry and Civic. MB options defy logic. Driving around town with a luxury vehicle with yellow lights. Oh don't forget that we paid $70 after a $6K discount. I've come to terms that Germany and MB have let me and us down. Growing up in EU owing a BMW or MB was a dream. Things have changed since then. Japan and Korea have come out strong and kept their promises to quality and reliability.
The Germans have not kept up and are slipping
it really bugs me that I have a luxury brand and have problems and they won't go away because the dealer can't find anything. I can't imagine the headaches we are going to have after 4 years. I'm not an engineer but can see that this vehicle is not built well the quality and attention tondetail are just not there. I have to connvice my wife to get off this crazy train and look for Alternatives

Yes I'm sure in NZ they load the vehicle with all the options and charge a premium for it. All these options are not free!!!
they won't sell many MBs in the US if they all came loaded with all
the features. When you buy a "luxury" vehicle you'd expect it comes with decent standard lights. I paid $82k For my GLS 450 and the lights are a FREAKING JOKE!

flyinduck 10-22-2016 07:53 PM

That been said though, all cars in NZ cost more, not because all cars here are loaded with all options cuz most of them aren't, but due to a fact we are a small market and GST and sh*t. X5 and Q7 are both on par on pricing and a few grand more expensive than a GLE and their LED light packages and safety, driving assist packages are not at all standard options. That's why we chose GLE. The equivalent X5 or Q7 with same options added on top would cost around 15 grand more. US MB should learn from NZ, at least at rid of that halogen light lmao.

I bet they have night vision goggles in the glove box! :rolf:

I just ordered the Morimoto HID kit for my GLE350. Back to BMW when I replace my BMW 5 series next year. I was thinking I would get a new E class. Nope. Not after having to do a DIY hack to a 65k new SUV. I am pissed.

I have a lease on another vehicle expiring next summer. I too was thinking of going with the new E class or a new GLC perhaps, but after this halogen light debacle It will be very unlikely If I go with another MB vehicle.

Multibeam LED Headlights

I have no experience with the MB Halogen headlights, but these multibeam LED headlights sound pretty impressive. Can anyone who has these comment?

I just drove an Audi q7 premium plus for the weekend (family member just got one). IN LOVE. The drive is smooth as butter, no bull**** shift changes, no adaptive transmission, excellent handling, supercharged v6 is very peppy, very quiet for the power, downside is the start/stop feature has to be manually turned off everytime you turn the car on. The driver display is a large TFT that lets you custmioze in many ways. It will even display the full GPS while keeping the fuel and speed on the side. It's actually brilliantly designed and layed out. The center console screen is not only very good resolution/use of space, but it can be concealed and has a button to retract it even while driving. the seats are extremely plush. the dash has lots of nice clean lines, very easy on the eyes, extremely refined. the buttons and dials have a very nice tactile and sturdy feel to it unlike the plastic crap MB uses. Bose sound system is top notch. Pano sunroof is out of this world. There's lots of safety features(cruise control assist and all that jazz), the backup and 360 camera is insanely clear and lets you see the whole vehicle including the objects around it, the whole electrical system apparently runs on fiber optics so it's very responsive. Oh, and it comes with HID as standard.I was extremely impressed. You actually feel like you're in a 70,000$ vehicle. Go sit in one at the dealer and you'll feel the buyers remorse.

I did a little comparison.

GLE350 4matic v6 with P3+vent seat, 3 zone climate, harmon kardon, parking assist with parking pilot= 74,285
Audi Q7 Prestige with supercharged v6 + driver assist+cold weather+black optic package+ night vision assist: 71,500.

IMO, If i could choose again, I would go with the q7 hands down. The q5 hasn't been refreshed yet. You're getting a bigger and better vehicle with way more features for 3k less.

How do you get around this in the GLE? Is there a setting? Thanks.

This was in the Audi Q7. When I drove the loaner C300, it's in the settings, i think under the engine management/drive select settings. Thankfully, I don't have this on my GLE.

There is no workaround but someone over at the ML forum did it by adding some sort of a switch but that requires some wire splicing. I am sure the next gen GLE will allow you to switch it off since the new 2017 e-class finally has that option that you can switch off as part of the setting.

GLE43_Sube 11-29-2016 12:57 PM

I don't even have my GLE yet and I'm annoyed with this feature already. Actually, in concept I think it's a good idea. There are some people who spend prolonged periods of time in stop and go traffic. I'm not one of them. The problem is simple. What MB should have done is designed it to be "off" by default. That way you could turn it on whenever you choose. To have it on by default and be forced to turn it off is just plain stupid. I don't know what they were thinking.:nix:

Shrdlu 11-29-2016 05:09 PM

I don't either ... but by making the start/stop feature the default driving mode, it may have enabled MB to claim higher gas mileage in its US govt. certification.

I drove a Toyota Highlander Hybrid for the last 4 years, so I am used to the engine being off. The Toyota had smooth engagement of the engine when taking off, if you happened to not start in electric. My 550e also has a very smooth transition due to the extra wet clutch linking the electric motor to the transmission. Transition is seamless, and with the deployment of the electric motor, you still get the "transmission shift" feel because it is using the transmission, not a separate electric motor driving the wheels. Sometimes I don't even realize I am in electric until I look at the dash and see the RPMs at zero.

Now my wife's new Volvo XC60 has the eco start stop, and I hate it. The startup is rough, and takes a second to kick in. It goes off at a stop, so if you stop to wait for someone to pull out of a parking space, it turns the engine off. Then if you try and turn the wheel, the power steering won't work because it's not electric, it's powered by the engine. It is a truly terrible implementation. I turn off that eco switch almost every time I drive her car. (but other than that is is a GREAT car)

tiri 12-01-2016 04:27 PM

I have no complaints about the Start Stop feature. It is pretty quick and seamless, and is very useful on my commute, so I fail to see where the problem is, even in a parking lot.

GLE43_Sube 12-02-2016 07:19 AM

Maybe I'm getting all worked up over nothing. I guess I'll have to actually use it for a while before I see if it's a nuisance or not. I did see it in action "once", during my test drive. I must admit, it was seamless. No jerkiness. No hesitation. There's just something about starting and stopping the engine that often that scares me. I read somewhere that it has an extra heavy duty starter, designed to withstand the constant use. I hope that's correct.
