Dust cover replacement

Hi all - I just ordered the lasfit h7 kit from Amazon, so it’ll be here tomorrow, but I had to get the dust cover replacements from lasfit directly and it’ll take a few more days. Does anyone see a major issue if I drive without the stock dust covers on until they arrive (presuming they won’t fit back on, which I am not hopeful about based on others’ posts). Thanks!

Custom Lasfit H7

Installed thE Lasfit H7 kit today and left the dust covers off until I receive the Lasfit rubber ones. I ordered 105mm but am thinking now I should’ve gotten the 100s. Their customer service said I can easily exchange them, but I may try the other eBay sellers listed here in the worst case scenario.

Anyway I found these very easy to install and I have only changed my headlight bulbs once before in my life. Took me <30 min for both sides. The light output is so good I almost cried. My eyes have been on fire driving at night with the crap halogens, and I live in a well-lit area. Couple that with 90% of oncoming traffic having HIDs or LEDs themselves, I was truly suffering just trying to see the road. I had considered LEDs when I first got the truck but was scared off by all the issues people have had with clips and adapters not fitting, so I was thrilled to find this all in one option that eliminated all that. Thanks to all on this thread for giving me the courage to DIY.

Has anyone changed out their high beam halogens for LEDs or HID? I did the low beam Hikari ultra and am quite happy with that and am now considering changing out the high beams.

I intend to, but I’m putting it off cause I know how tight that space is and it’s going to be a pain. Just putting in regular size bulbs was a hassle.

Smile Dust cover for GLE350 2017

Can you please help me find the dust covers? I can see you found the dust cover for your GLE 350 with more depth? I ordered one but it was too small. I would appreciate if you could search and provide me the link.

Thank you.

Are you sure you received the correct part number? Which LED bulb are you trying to fit?

Here's my solution for the dust cap. The stock one wouldn't fit, but a very helpful eBay seller named autolights_wholesale actually examined their collection of dust caps for all different kinds of cars for me (including Dodge, Land Rover, etc.) until he discovered that his Mercedes dust cap (part 147 353-00 for 1998-2009 W251 R350 R500 models) is the same size but deeper and fit a GLE housing on his bench. I have no affiliation with the eBay seller, but he spent so much time test-fitting different dust caps for me that I hope those reading this thread reward his kindness with your business. He really went the extra mile to send me photos, take measurements, and said he'd even accept a return if they didn't work out for me. But they worked out great! You will note that they are the same design with the 4 channel tabs, just with a deeper dome.

YEs -
Amazon Amazon

I am able to fit these correctly and these are working fine. But the dust cover does not fit. because these need a little more clearance. After looking at the thread I ordered these.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/14362933383...m=143629333831

but these are smaller than the original in diameter.

Thanks,

Ah, sorry I am not familiar with that model bulb. It may very well be even longer than the Hikari bulbs. I personally think the Hikari ACME were at the outer edge of acceptable clearance/fitment, and still recommend the Hikari Ultra for those who want no fitment issues.

it's been a while since I read this thread from top to bottom, but I think some people were able to fit them under the stock caps, but others had clearance issues.

Raj,
That looks like them. Notice they are deeper than the stock GLE caps. I know Hikari's worked best for me and I tried at least ten different manufacturers and we used a lumen meter for testing to make sure we had a good combination.

Good luck!

I may be mistaken so you may want to contact the company to be certain but I believe they only make 1 style H7 bulb. The same bulb will fit in any headlight, high beam or fog light housing and it's the reflector and/or projector lens that directs the beam according to its intended purpose.

I think the reason is that the DOT hasn't approved them for highway use.

Hi Everyone, been following this thread for about a year now. I currently have the Morimoto with the Hylux installed in my GLE 350. I want to change up to the Hikari LED’s. I was looking at the new Ultras. I see they come with a ballast box, my question is will I still need the anti flicker? Thanks in advance.

Aloha,

I installed the LASFIT Custom Pro-MB2 H7 LED bulbs to our 2018 GLE. Installation was very easy especially with the upgraded retainer clip.
The Lasfit install video is very helpful. www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzjMMrKdwIc

The OEM dust cover as posted by others is too shallow to accommodate the LEDs. So, I purchased a pair of MB Part 2088200149 as recommended.

I bought the LEDs and the dust covers from Amazon:
One quick note. The driver side bulb was a little too close to the side opening so I had to shave a tad of the dust cover edge. All good after that.

I am having the same issue on the driver side. Can you send a picture of how you modified the dust cover?

LasFit body too close to the edge of opening and prevents the replacement cover from being installed.... this is just on the driver side. The new cover for passenger side installed just fine.

Side shaved off from one locking lip to the next all the way to the outer diameter. I just used a rasp to do it.

With the simple mod, the cover fits well and is very easy to remove and install

I hope above pictures help.
