Here's an update re our puckered '19 350GLE front seats: like others, after replacing the entire driver's seat cover it ended up being worse than the original. The dealer continued to mess with the seat that ended up being the worst ever; loose fabric, crooked seams and exposed frayed under cushion edges due to unattached attachment hooks. After a week (with a loaner) we again refused the job and the dealer offered to send it to a local upholsterer. I dropped by the shop and conferred with the upholsterer and he confirmed what we all know - the seat cover is incorrectly sized. He added that that the dealer did a crappy job of reinstalling the cover and was concerned that the heating elements may have been compromised. He said the best he could do is add a layer of padding and correctly restretch the cover. The additional padding slightly affected the seat height but the seat heater is working fine. We were concerned that the padding could cause a fire hazard but evidently the element is attached to the underside of the seat fabric and not covered by the padding. Short of acquiring a correctly cut seat cover, the results seems to be the best option so far. We're concerned about the long term fitness of the padding but we'll tackle that when the time comes. We'll do the passenger seat next week.
