GLE 450 / 43 coupe owners..........help!

I have just purchased a VERY gently used 2016 GLE450 AMG Coupe (Iridium Silver EXT/Crystal Grey INT) and the rear parcel shelf (the removable one that mounts above the cargo compartment, behind the rear headrests) is missing. I tried to inform my sales rep and the parts consultant that the 450 / 43 Coupe comes equipped with this shelf standard from the factory. Since it's missing they aren't sure whether it does or not because they have no other 450 or 43 Coupe in stock to compare it to. They tried to look it up in the computer, but it only shows the retractable roll-up cover that goes in the regular 4-door GLE. Could anyone on here that owns a 450 / 43 Coupe be so kind as to look at their Coupe's removable cargo shelf and see if it has a part number and then post it so that I can get it ordered? Thanks in advance!

The parcel shelf is standard equipment. Whoever sold/traded in their GLE450 probably forgot to include it. There is no part no. on the shelf itself. You purchased this at a MB dealer and the parts dept. isn't able to look up the part no?

If you purchased from a MB dealer - or have your VIN# and called a MB dealer parts dept - they can look up the part# for you..

They did you a favor. If you take that thing out once, the rubber clips squeak and rattle awfully when you put them back in and you hit bumps in the road.

First off, thanks for the fast response! Yes, I purchased the vehicle as a CPO from a MB dealership. They claim that they cannot source the part #. I personally think that they are blowing smoke up my a$$ because they are required to replace the part to certify the vehicle as a CPO prior to its resale. I will try another dealer to verify if this is indeed the case. If the part is relatively cheap, I will order it and replace it myself. Again, thanks for your fast reply.

I'd be really surprised if that part is cheap. I suppose that "cheap" is a relative term...

No squeaks here. You have to make sure you slide it into place securely. However, I do think MB should have taken a note from BMW here. They use an articulated cover. Once removed, it can easily be folded for storage. Where do you store our parcel shelf if you have to remove it while already out and about?

Knowing MB, I'd say about $200.

I tuck it behind the back seat and the two wheel humps in the trunk/cargo area. Fits nicely in between.

As to the squeaking thing, I noticed the first time that I took mine out that I thought that I was going to break it, I had to pull so hard. I was a little bit concerned that it might not fit all that tight after repeated in and outs, but I've only had it out that once to see how it comes out.

I too have wondered about where to store it, if I did take it out. I figured behind the back seat was the best place as well, but never actually tried putting it there...

Let's gamble a little. I say $295 plus tax.

*UPDATE*.........went to a different MB dealer.

The good news: They took my VIN information and found the part # immediately.......292-690-42-00. They gave me a printout of the diagram that clearly shows the part that I was describing. I then took that part number and walked out onto the lot, found their '17 GLE 43 Coupe, and looked at the rear parcel shelf inside. On the underside of the part there was a sticker with the MB part number clearly printed on it. Sweet!

The not-so-good news: The part costs almost $300! I was like, "WTF?!?"

I'm going to try to get the MB dealership that I bought the car from (3 days ago) to honor their obligation to replace it, as the vehicle is SUPPOSED to be CPO and the shelf is STANDARD EQUIPMENT on ALL GLE Coupes. I brought it to their attention when I test drove it the day I bought it. I'm not gonna hold my breath or anything, but it's worth a try at least.

Well.... two things - but it did not come from me -

1) Yes - it is a "used car protext the profit thing" - and if anything the salesman is the front man

2) They should agree to order the part - or take it out of another CPO if they have it - and let them know politely if they don't (a) you will then call Mercedes Customer Care - and (2) when you receive CPO email survey from MB you will comment "dealer has not been reputable" and after the survey you will call Customer Care a 2nd time

Thanks for your advice! I will attempt this avenue of approach and report back with the results.

Haha! Apparently I've bought too many MB parts over the years.

LOL! I guess we have confirmation that cheap is still a relative term.

MB parts have always been expensive!!

*UPDATE*..........Called the MB dealership that I purchased my CPO vehicle from to get an updated status of their progress into rectifying my missing parcel shelf situation. They STILL claimed that the parcel shelf was optional equipment on the GLE 450 / 43 AMG Coupe. Obviously I called "Bull$h!t" on their claim and informed them that I would take the issue higher up the chain (at customer care) if they didn't take action to remedy the problem. I then informed them that I had already done their job by researching the part # using my VIN at another MB dealer and also confirmed through that dealership's techs and service advisors that the part is standard equipment on ALL GLE Coupes. I then provided them the part # that I was given and they said they would look into it and call me back.

A few hours later, they actually made good on their promise to call me back. They informed me that they found the part in their system and subsequently ordered it for me (at no cost). Since it doesn't require installation by a dealership tech, I told them to ship it directly to my address and that I would install it myself.

Overall assessment of my buying experience: F-ing RIDICULOUS! Hopefully they ordered and shipped the CORRECT part and didn't fat-finger the keyboard while entering the part #. I'll know in about a week when it shows up. I'll report back when it arrives...........

*UPDATE*................The part arrived today! Came boxed-up in the usual oversized Mercedes-Benz packaging. Thankfully they sent me the correct part. I am VERY pleased that Mercedes-Benz made good on their promise to order and ship the part (both free of charge) and ensure that I was 100% satisfied with my CPO purchase.

Also, just FYI, if you're looking for the correct part number for the Genuine MB rear cargo area tray (basically Mercedes-branded weathertech) that fits the GLE Coupe, it is: A292-814-00-00. That also arrived to my door today as well.
