Lots of used GLE 450 Coupes available...Why??

After purchasing my wifes GLS 450, I really prefer MB vs my current BMW. So I have been looking into getting a GLE. Looked at the GLE 43 and the coupe. But MSRPs are a bit more than I want to spend right now, so looking at CPOs. I noticed that there are ton (>40) of used GLE 450s available, and only 12 GLE 400s. is there a reason for this? I prefer the coupe (I think) but do worry that over time it will be too small (3 kids, 12, 9 and 6), though when I look at the specs, it is virtually the same size (interior and cargo) as my current BMW x5.

Anyone know of any reason why there are so many more 450s than 400s?? Is the coupe really a niche car that people tend to get rid of/sick of more quickly?

I know it's a question impossible to answer with any certainty, but any input would be appreciated from owners of either vehicle

It's definitely a "niche" vehicle. People either love it or hate it. There is no in between. However, I don't think people get rid of/sick of it more quickly. One reason may be because in 2017 MB renamed it the AMG GLE43. The "AMG" badging is paramount to some people who like to project a certain image. I can't speak for others. All I can say is that I love mine and have absolutely no intention of getting rid of it any time soon.

Just FYI, there's a dedicated GLE43/GLE450 Coupe sub-forum here:

Not sure about the GLC450, but the GLE400 was a short run production car.( Guessing about 2 years) It was initially called a ML400 initially along with the ML line of 350,400,550. they quit making the 550 in 2014 ( It has V8 with twin turbos) and they later introduced the ML400 which has a six cylinder with 2 turbos. In 2017 Mercedes introduce the GLE43/63 and started winding down the 400 production line.

What I like about the 400 is the many standard features which are options on the 350 series, like leather, stitched dash, better headlights etc.

I think it would be a good car to buy since there are plenty of 350 driving around and it should have a better resale value.

Thanks for the feedback. I like both the 400 and 450. Just trying to decide which will be better long term. I considered the 350 but feel the engine is too small for the vehicle. I've ditched many cars because of this and won't make that mistake again. First and foremost I want a comfortable car but with the power and sportiness when I need/want it. I like my x5 overall but the gle is more comfortable, has a better ride, and has more power and better acceleration.

When i I test drive the 450 at times I felt like it was almost too sporty, if that's possible. The 400 may be a better alternative for long term comfort first and power when I need it

I think it maybe because the 450 coupe was the "base" model and the 400 SUV was an "upgrade" model. The 400 SUV had another model, 350, below it which was more popular and therefore many more of them. Kind of like you don't see many 550 E classes compared to the 350 (when they were still making 550's). Just a thought.
