So I bought a camera

So I bought a camera for my GLE. Noting really nice or expensive, just something that caught my eye on Amazon during all the Christmas sales and I'm finally getting around to installing it permanently (or just better). If I like it, I might upgrade to a nice one later. But for now it will work.
So here is my question. Are the 2 usb plugs in the center console only for inputs to the car? Yes I know the bottom one is for Carplay (or the android counterpart) but the cam era reacts the same when its plugged into either USB. I ordered a long cord to go from the center USB plug and around through the car to finally go up the A pillar to where I wanted the camera. But everytime I plug the camera in here it only allows me to either use the camera as a "mass storage" or "PC mode." Will the 2 USB plugs not just power a component? Is there some type of adapter to use here or should I just look into hard wiring it straight into a fuse somewhere. (Hard wiring into a fuse is something I don't want to do if I can avoid it)
I know it's not the camera because I originally plugged it into the cigarette power supply in the back seat behind the center console and tested the camera there for a few days and decided to wire it a little more permanent and hidden.
Thanks!

i have one of these (but with 2 ports)

you may do better to use something like this in the lighter port by the ash tray. it will make hiding the line a lot easier and shorter. good luck, ron

Good idea. I never thought of trying to find something to fit under the slider. But right now my max 360 radar is plugged into the ashtray lighter port and I'm working on a way to get rid of that wire too. I would use the lighter in the rear seats but I'm afraid my 5 yr old will step on it and break it.
I'm just scared to start tapping into other wires and fuses when I don't kow much about what I'm doing on this car.

I have a similar setup, but I cannot close the center console.
