Found this...

Well while cleaning my car today I found this. My daughter is the culprit but promises her finger nail did it while she was trying to clean it earlier this week. I doubt that. Either way I’m assuming the door panel has to come off to replace this or am I just not prying hard enough with my tools? It’s the passenger rear door. FYI. I haven’t punished her yet. I’m making her worry over it for awhile.

When you see repetitive, back-and-forth scratches like that, it's intentional. You don't "inadvertently" make linear, parallel scratches by accident and not know it. Fingernails aren't hard enough to cause this. My guess would be a key, penknife or something similar.

You shouldn't have to remove the door panel to replace this. Those trim pieces snap off/on. Get the part no. from your dealer. Then order it here:

Oh she (6yr old) admitted to it but she kept saying her finger nail did it. I proved her wrong that hers, nor mine, were strong enough to do that. I even tried to use a pencil she has back there but that wouldn't even scratch it. All she has back there are books, pencils, and crayon like pencils so my wife and I are kind of stumped as to how she did it. No one else has rode back there since this has happened. Also after several tests, this trim is pretty sturdy to abuse.......unless you use a ring. Use a ring (like rubbing your wedding band across it) and it is like kryptonite to it!

Thanks for the link too. I went by the stealership this morning and ordered the part. I got it for just under $300 and after comparing it to the part on the link you added, they only got me for about $40 more.

LOL. When you said "daughter", for some reason I pictured a 16 year old. I stand corrected.

BACnMercedes, aside from the trim replacement, have you repaired one of these trim panels before? I’ve got one with a small chip out of it and am looking for a fix.

No, fortunately not yet. I’m waiting on the new piece to come in and after I look at it, figure out how to get the old piece off. I’ve heard both ways, the door trim has to come off or the piece just snaps off. I’ve also heard the door piece has to come off, the new piece snapped in, and then it needs to be melted on. I’m just going to look at the new piece (since I can’t do anything till it get here anyway) and go from there. I’ll let you know.

If like the X166 GL you need to remove the rear tweeter from the door to get to the volt hiding behind there. The rest should be easy to locate. Think 3 total to remove then pop the panel off. Removed elec cables. There are about 10-12 screws hold on that trim piece. Why I have no idea but Benz over did it in the screws.

I removed mine in my GL to wrap to what I wanted.
