2016 GLE 350 4 Matic 4-wheel Alignment
We purchased our vehicle at MBofSA with 7 year extended warranty plus 5 year tire and wheel warranty.
We’ve been maintaining and servicing our vehicle at the dealership, from day one.
I got a flat tire and had to have roadside come and change my tire and put on the spare one. The tire was ripped on the inside. The MB tech couldn’t take the tire off as the lock key was stripped and had to go look for one of his own. He said the technicians at the MB shop must’ve used the impact gun to put on the tires and stripped the lock key. Normally it should be done by hand. I brought the car in the shop and was told you the Tire Specialist that all 3 tires (4th one was new) need to be replaced, as the inside of the tire is wearing off, which apparently caused my flat. I was told that the flat replacement won’t be covered under my Wheel and Tire warranty because the cause was “alignment”. So now I’m waiting in the shop for tire replacement and alignment for $1,276.
We paid for maintenance and trust the dealer to scheck our SUV accordingly. Every time the vehicle is serviced, the shop is also supposed to check the rest of the vehicle. I have all maintenance records and In the last 4 years, not a single time “wheel alignment” nor “abnormal tire wear” was written in the report nor brought up to our attention that this needed to be done. Now that the tires are all damaged, we are told oops you need new tires and alignment for $1,276.
I e had Honda / Toyota cars before - rwmeber doing front wheel alignment but never a 4whee alignment. I’m so surprised that a newer type vehicle , driven in the city, with only 50K miles, would have such a severe misalignment issue to cause the tires to wear off on the inside edge to the point of the tire ripping and metal mesh showing. The tires looked new, looking from the outside. Why to hell didn’t the mechanics see that every time they did tire rotations !?
Have you guys run into this issue ? Now I have new tires on, how often should I do alignment ?

If this has been 4yrs - and you mentioned you have driven 50K miles - is that 50K miles on the original set of tires ?
Yes - a new set of tires should be have a 4-wheel alignment - and this 2nd set should last you "20%-25% longer" than your original set.
Wheel & Tire covers Road Hazard and Wheel Scrapes/Damage and does not cover mileage wear.
That said - I would suggest at each service you request Tire Rotation - which will make tire ear a bit more even..

One tire was original, the others had been replaced due to nail punctures etc, so they were newer. The tires had been rotated at every service interval. The point is , the dealer could’ve prevented this, if they had brought the uneven tire wear and I could’ve done an alignment early enough, not when all tires are damaged and ripped.

My dealer says things like "Mercedes won't pay for that" way too often on some things that I've asked about so it may be a "parent company" issue rather a dealership issue, not that it makes a high repair bill any less annoying.
If it's possible, escalate the issue to a higher lever through MB.

Yes will bring this up to MB USA. The replaced tires had about apprx 15K miles, I don’t know how this alignment issue wire if the k dude if the tire to the point of ripping it.

I wrote a letter the MB it no response. .
the dealer claims because of misalignment the inner side of the tire, right next to the inside wall, that’s where the wearing happened and the tire was ripping , all 3 tires were ripping and the inside wire mesh was showing. I had never seen or experienced that with any other vehicle I’ve owned.
I’ve written MB head office another letter asking them to get rid of the Pirelli Scorpion rites and out a Continental or Good year instead. Even the MB mechanic said these Pitellis are not good tires and wear off super fast , they are too soft. O really see the wear on them. This is crazy.
