Just got a GLE, my first MB...and I have some questions!

Hi Everyone,

New to the forums and new owner of a slightly used 2016 GLE 350. After years of driving Ford, Lexus and Toyota; I decided to buy this vehicle...and absolutely love it.

I have a few question for current GLE 350 owners.

1. Is there a trick to get the puddle lights to turn on? I unlock the car at night and nothing turns on the exterior of the car. Just the inside lights. I checked the settings inside and left the “locator lights” enabled. But it doesn’t work. I can see that under the mirror there is a spot where there should be an LED puddle/locator light.

2. Is there suppose to be some sort of beeping noise when backing up? I noticed there is sensors in the front of the car (are these for when pulling in or something else?). I don’t hear anything when backing up,

3. Does anyone feel that the front windows are not tinted enough? I feel like the sun is burning through and there is almost no tint on the front windows. Is this normal? 😁

4. Has anyone experienced any issues with the lane assist feature? There could be no cars next to me and it warns me that there is a car in my blind spot...and when there is a car in
my blind spot it doesn’t alert me. The dealer said they will fix it for me next Tuesday on their own dime. Does anyone know what it might be, some sort of radar sensor? I’m curious to know if it’s a big or simple (cheap) fix. Not really my problem but curious!!

5. The dealer gave me 2 key fobs but 1 key fob only has the inner metal flat key (not sure the technical name). Should both key fobs include this inner key or just 1? If so, I can get the dealer to give me the other key or buy one.

Thank You! I really appreciate any advice/comments.

Welcome! Please post more pics. The W166 with M276 naturally aspirated engine is a great and reliable combination. How many miles?

I will provide more feedback later today on your questions.

Regarding the fob, likely need to order a new one as the security key is not available separately, to my knowledge. I paid about $300 for a new key fob plus programming im the Midwest about one year ago. Prices for a fob vary widely.

(I suggest checking the manual or call the dealer because my puddle lights turn on when I unlock the car at night.)

2. Is there suppose to be some sort of beeping noise when backing up? I noticed there is sensors in the front of the car (are these for when pulling in or something else?). I don’t hear anything when backing up,
(If you have this upgraded feature, it will only beep when close to an object.) Again, this is covered in the manual.)

3. Does anyone feel that the front windows are not tinted enough? I feel like the sun is burning through and there is almost no tint on the front windows. Is this normal?
(It seems like every other car I have owned...)

4. Has anyone experienced any issues with the lane assist feature? There could be no cars next to me and it warns me that there is a car in my blind spot...and when there is a car in

(I will sometimes get a false reading when passing a sign post or light post at certain angles and speeds, I will also NOT get a blind spot warning at certain speeds in certain conditions on the highway- this is also covered in the manual.)

5. The dealer gave me 2 key fobs but 1 key fob only has the inner metal flat key (not sure the technical name). Should both key fobs include this inner key or just 1? If so, I can get the dealer to give me the other key or buy one.
( Both of mine have the inner metal flat key)

Enjoy the new ride!! I love mine...

Unless you have the parking senor package, which you have senors in the rear bumper as well. IF not then the front sensor is part of the standard equipment. It is for Collision Prevent Assist system. The sensor will alert you when you are closing in on objects in front of you too fast. if you don't any action the car will automatically apply brake.

Regarding puddle lamps, do you mean the Mercedes logo projected onto the ground? This is an option, code 587. Please post your VIN and it can be decoded to show the options on your vehicle.

Regarding window tint, there is a factory option for this, code 840. Even with the 840 option, the rear glass is significantly darker than the front glass. Aftermarket tint is also possible.

Regarding lane keeping, do you mean the steering wheel tactile feedback, the yellow/red warning lamp in the mirror, or another system? Again, please post your VIN and it will be clear which options are installed on your vehicle.

My puddle lamps stopped working. Is it a settings issue or something must be wrong?

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack thread.
