Surrounded Camera Not Showing when approaching objects

Hi, does anyone know if surrounding view camera suppose to pop up when approaching some object in front? The parking sensor works fine and beeping. and if I put reverse, it shows up and remain till I leave the parking lot.

it’s nice if it pops when too close to some things. My Infiniti does that.
Not sure if it’s designed to not doing this way or just some settings I have to change. Thanks

On my 2016 GLE 350 the backup camera comes on only in reverse and stays on for a short time when moving forward in drive afterwards. That's the only time I have seen it come on the monitor screen. I thought I recall a setting where you can manually extend the camera, but I'm not sure when that could be used.

Thanks John,
Does yours has the 360 camera or just the backup? To me it make sense to act like this if the car only has backup cameras.

With 360 cameras, when the car detect something in front, it should popup the 360 camera view(at least I believe it should).

I'm hoping it's something hidden in settings that I missed.

I have only the rear camera which is activated when backing up and it remains on for a few seconds pulling forward- nice when parallel parking to see the painted lines.

I guess I will put reverse first, then park. Is there an easier way to popup 360 camera?

Make the 360 cam a favorite. In both my ML and GL, when in D, I can press the star button next to the Comand dial on the console. The 360 cam opens up with a front facing view. I can press the Comand dial and the view changes to overhead so I can see the parking spot lines. The directions from the Comand pdf below don't paste very well. Start in System and you should be able to figure it out. You can also Google Mercedes Comand manual and likely get the exact one for your car.

Assigning a favorites button
X To assign a favorites button: press the
Wbutton.
X Select System by turning cVd the
COMAND controller and press W to confirm.
X Select Assign as Favorite and press
W to confirm.
The list of predefined functions appears.
The dot # indicates the currently selected
function.
X Select the function by turning cVd the
COMAND controller and press W to confirm.
The favorites button is assigned the
selected function.
X Example: to call up a favorite: press the
gfavorites button.
This calls up the predefined function.
You can select the following predefined functions
in a menu:
RSplitView on/off: you can switch the
screen view for the front passenger on or
off.
RDisplay On/Off: you can switch the display
off or on.
RFull Screen: 'Clock': you can call up
the full screen with the clock.
R®Menu: you can call up the online and
Internet functions.
R360° Camera: you can call up the picture
of the 360° camera.
RFull screen: 'Map': you can call up the
full screen with the map.
RSpoken Driving Tip: you can call up the
current driving recommendation.
RDisplay Traffic Messages: you can call
up traffic reports.
RNavigate Home: you can start route guidance
to your home address if you have
already entered and saved the address

When I was testing the 360 camera in my GLE. I notice it at certain speed (MPH) the camera shut's off. To activate the camera is buying putting it in reverse and then drive (activate the front) or going thru the command screen.

pjw that is good to know, thanks for the info.

On the center stack (vertical part of instrument panel).

Above the green "accept call" button.
