Drivers Door Switch Bezel

Anyone familiar with what is required to replace the drivers door switch bezel part # 166-720-47-02-64? Can it simply be popped off with a trim tool or does the door liner need to come off and removed from behind?

I tried the rear door and you have to remove it from behind, I guess the front doors are similar.
You can videos on how to do it in Youtube.

Thanks, found some YouTube videos on how to remove the door panels for a ML. Figured it would be the same process.

Called the dealership parts department and inquired about the door switch bezel 166-720-47-02-64, the bezel in our newly purchased GLE 400 is cracked. It isn't really noticeable but being the car is in such great condition it seemed a shame not to fix this, fortunately they had one in stock. Talked to a service rep to find out on the cost for the service dept. to install the new bezel to justify doing it myself. I explained to the service rep the problem and he asked if I was talking about the plastic trim piece in the door and if it was cracked? To which I replied yes. To my surprise he said bring it on in and we will replace it under warranty, Never even thought it may be a warranty item, glad I called.

Yes, mine was replaced under warranty. It is a high failure frequency item. Haven't seen it on other sections of this site, so it might be a W166 thing.

Ours has three horizontal cracks in it, surprised to hear that this may be high frequency failure item. Seems to me you would really have to hit it pretty hard for it to crack. I guess it being right at elbow level for most people opposed to a car when standing makes a difference.

Lots of factors:

- thin wood veneer
- thin urethane coating
- thin backing substrate
- inadequate fastening design
- insufficient substructure support
- sun/cold thermal cycling
- high impact door closing force
- flying elbows, coffee cups and metal drinking flasks

The first three are the main ones imo.
