Can't set height on Tailgate

Hi,

I have a new to me 2017 GLE 350.

I can't get the tailgate height adjustment to work.

I open the tailgate and stop it at the desired new height.

Then I push the STOP/CLOSE button and hold it but I never get a BEEP.

Does my car not come with that feature?

Thanks
Peter

I have a '17 GLE with power liftgate. I have not tried to set the height.

This is from the bottom of page 84 and the top of page 85 in the owner's manual:

Limiting the opening angle of the tailgate
General notes
! Make sure there is sufficient clearance to
open the tailgate fully when setting the opening angle. The tailgate could otherwise be

damaged. Ideally, set the opening angle outside.
Activating
You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate.
This is possible in the top half of its opening
range, up to approximately 4 in (10 cm) before
the stop.
X To open the tailgate: pull the handle on the
tailgate.
X To stop the opening procedure at the
desired position: press the closing button in
the tailgate or pull the handle on the outside
of the tailgate again.
X To save the position: press and hold the
closing button in the tailgate until two short
tones sound.
The opening angle limiter is activated. The
tailgate will now stop in the stored position
when opening.
Deactivating
X Press and hold the closing button in the tailgate until you hear a short tone.

That helps

Thanks for the reply.

I should have read the manual.

So I think the problem is that I am trying to save a height that is within the last 4 inches of the travel.

It does seem to save a height that is lower (and I would hit my head on it).

Strange logic by the engineers.

I am trying to stop the height just before it hits my open garage door.

That occurs in the last 4 inches of the travel.

I also didn't think that I would have to open the tailgate to the 100% height and then pull down to the desired height before I programmed it.

If anyone is going to do this a good technique is to open it to the desired new height and mark the electric opener/shock absorber thing with a sharpie.

then when you have a way to stop the manual adjustment right where you want it when you program.

I just created a short 2 mins video how to limit electric tailgate height
Hope this helps everyone to avoid smashing ceiling.
This works for many Mercedes models with electric tailgate.
