Rain Sensing Wiper Setting Not Working

So recently I had to get a new windshield. Was driving and caught a rock that did a "double impact" and the glass shop couldn't just fill it in. I got a crack and ordered a new MB factory (not OEM from another company) windshield. Had the glass guy do the replacement at the local dealer and when he was done they took it for reprogramming the sensors. I thought this had to do with my cruise control or something but I guess it was only for lights and rain sensing wiper settings.

I got my car back and the next day it was rainy. On either setting for the automatic wipers it's terrible. The window gets so full of water that I'm either hitting the button for a single wipe or I just turned them on the timed (I believe 3rd) setting. Is this something that anyone else has experienced? I loved the rain sensing wipers before. I only ever used that feature, never needing to set it on anything else, now I can't see if I use them.

Before I call the dealership and see about getting it programmed again, I was hoping for some insight into the process or what others have done to get them programmed correctly again.

Just for note - I did try to search for this but didn't find another thread after a few minutes of searching that addressed it.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I do not work for MB, but my understanding is that all windshield glass clarity is NOT the same…There are very specific specifications with an OEM MB glass windshield…
i hope that it is only a reprogramming and not a problem with the glass itself… fingers crossed!!!
let us know what happens …
good luck

Yes, I was afraid of not getting something exactly right. My apologies if I wasn't clear. The replacement glass is MB glass. Ordered from MB and shipped by MB. I had the glass installed at the dealership and the dealership then reprogrammed the sensor as they said it was required. I wonder if they had done nothing if it would have just continued to work properly. As far as I can tell the lights are working just fine and turning on at night. I should try driving with my high beams on and seeing if they turn off automatically again also before I call the dealership. Will post an update but still would love for someone to chime in that knows the process of the actual programming. If it ends up being a problem with the glass, I would expect the dealership to get another replacement and install/reprogram again at their cost.

Thanks

Generally, I don't like the rain sensing calibration on my 2017 GLE. I agree that the rain accumulates to the point of not being able to see through the windshield, before the wiper actuates. Sensitivity is not adjustable except for the two position switch, which is useless. Dumb system.

Having said that, if you want something changed, the dealer needs to do it. I had a new windshield installed and a local glass shop replaced the glass (MB part) and took it to the dealer for calibration.

That's how mine is now but wasn't before. The rain sensing setting worked perfectly before my new windshield. Now I can't use them at all and the timed settings seem kind of like garbage to me. I guess it's been long enough if someone had knowledge of the system they would have said so by now. I'll call the dealership today and try to get something scheduled.

I have never liked the setting on my auto wipers…it’s too long in-between wipes… When my car was new, I asked my dealer about adjusting the timing and they said it wasn’t possible…If someone has a different answer I would love to hear it. Thanks
