So I recently bought a used 2018 GLE550e with 32K miles from a dealer. The car came with the 1 year CPO warranty which is great. First of all, this is a beautiful driving and running car that is fun to drive. I unfortunately have had the car in the shop multiple times already over the past 3 months. I keep getting engine codes. Finally today they told me not to use electric twice a week because the engine isn't getting warm enough. I'm not sure how I feel about this answer. I bought the vehicle because I only drive 10 miles a day and wanted to use electric. Has anyone else had this type of issue?
So let me see if I got this straight… You bought an electric car so you could use the electric car features. But the dealer says you shouldn’t.
It’s absolutely nuts.!!!!!
I would call another dealer and ask their opinion.
incidentally, I came across this possible fix for you in another Mercedes forum. The small battery supplying power to electronics in the car was dead. The problem was fixed once a new battery was installed. It is located in the trunk area… give it a shot?

That dealer answer is bonkers! I have a 2018 550e since new, I ordered it the way I wanted. Best MB SUV I have owned and not a thing wrong. Just normal annual maintenance. I have a 220v charger and solar. Charge the car daily as/if needed and use electric everytime we use it. Only tip I'd remind you that in the steering wheel dash confg controls screen you can set the charge rate so increase it with a larger charger to shorten the recharge time. The 2018 550e was the 3rd year, and end of that run, I bet you dealer still does not yet really have an advanced elec systems technician. Mine does and for software upgrades or anything perhaps weird, only one tech take it on and its a VERY large dealership. Depending on your state you also have up to ten years on battery and elec controls. If it won't operate to spec, get it fixed, recertified or return it to the dealer.
I received similar advice from MB customer service relating to the 550e. I am having transmission issues, not engine issues, but the answer is the same (rather defeating the purpose of having a plug-in hybrid vehicle):
"we recommend that you select the gasoline-engine mode before beginning your commute"
