2016 GLE 350: Does it really need spark plug replacement at 50k miles?
I am coming up on 50k mikes on my 2016 GLE 350 (W166 engine). Owners manual says 50k interval on spark plugs.
The OEM plugs that are in it are iridium. For what I have researched, iridium plugs will last 100k miles plus. I dont understand why MB requires spark plug replacement at 50k miles?
Do they really need to be replaced at 50k?
PS: The car is not showing any symptoms of needing them replaced

This place is a joke.
Absolutely they need to be replaced. This is a direct injection engine which also contributes to them wearing out. I've changed many at 50k and each time the gap on the plug had grown quite a bit and the electrode was rounded. Not only that, but they are going on 7 maybe 8 years old. Time and corrosion take their toll as well.

Replace them. It makes a difference in smoothness.
Skipping any scheduled maintenance on an MB is a move down the slippery slope. It doesn’t end well.
Do all scheduled maintenance on time, or earlier/more often.

Yes! Direct Injection engine they should be changed at 50K miles. I did mine on my ML350 recently at 50K miles.
