I have a 2020 GLE 350. The rear liftgate sticks and is hard to open. The latch and handle are working fine. I just have to pull hard to open it when it does open, It opens all the way with no problem. it also closes easily with the button so there’s no problems there. It seems like it’s sticking. I keep cleaning the weatherstripping and the door itself, but it doesn’t seem to help. Any ideas?

hi did you ever figure out a solution? I've noticed this happens randomly. Not so much it sticks, but like the latch doesn't fully unlock. I hear the latch unlocking but I'll have to pull on it for it to open. Originally Posted by cadman33619

It's the gas struts. They bind at rest when weak, then move fine once past the initial dead spot. Replace both. Stick with OEM or Stabilus brand.
Pop the latch and try lifting from fully closed if it fights you for the first inch then swings easy, the struts are done.
