My brother and I purchased these a few weeks ago. We took them on a ski vacation this week. The handling in the snow was better than I expected. It puts a smile on my face every time I start it.

I know that we all have our design and aesthetic preferences when it comes to automobile design. I hate to say it but for my taste, I do not like the retro-styled front grille with the vertical slats on the GLE63s. There is no way to suger coat it...I just find it to be very ugly! The earlier version with one, or even two horizontal fins flanking the M-B star inside the grille was far more elegant, IMHO. Then also, the design of the revised rear tail lights on the GLE63s looks to my eye to be quite generic and simplistic, almost as if it was on a Japanese SUV and an attempt by M-B to just cut costs of the previous more elaborate and larger rear lights. The rest of the vehicle is quite nice and mostly up to date with its competitors. But for me, I have to really find a vehicle asethetcally pleasing and attractive in order to want to buy one. This generation of the Mercedes-Benz mid-size AMG, ICE-powered SUV just leaves me cold. I say this having owned a 2004 M-B E55 AMG, followed by a 2007 M-B ML63 AMG, both wonderfully enjoyable vehicles, albeit with certain well-documented flaws. I made the decision in 2016 to switch over to a BMW X5M which I do not regret, still driving it with 93,000 miles so far. Back in 2016, having done the research and financial calculations comparing comparably equiped/optioned M-B GLE63 AMG and BMW X5M vehicles, I could get the exact prefered interior and exterior colors I desired on the BMW and would pay approximatley $12,000 less for the BMW. When I am back in the market in mid-2023, depending on the status of the microchip shortage and world supply chain issues, I will be curious to see what the mid-cycle, face-lifted BMW X5M looks like compared to what the then current M-B GLE63s AMG is, doing the same research and financial comparisons. But if the M-B still has the same ugly retro front grille design, then it will be a very each choice...

The world would be a boring place if everyone had the same taste. Having said that, this is the first time I'm hearing someone say they don't like the new AMG grille. They have that aura of sportiness unlike any other similar priced cars I see on the road and is the primary reason we decided to go with GLE 53 with an I6 instead of Audi SQ7 with V8, for the same price.
I respect your opinion and am glad that you are happy with your GLE 53, but I just disagree on the aestheics of the new front grille design. While the new AMG grill is different from "other similar priced cars I see on the road", I believe that the reason is that most automotive designers today consider it to be just plain ugly and strive to be creative in what they come up with, not reverting to a nostalgic image from the past.
FYI, if you are interested, the Mercedes-Benz vehicle that inspired the current crop of Mercedes-Benz AMG designers to go this retro route on the new AMG grille for the AMG line up of vehicles, was the 1952-1953 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Le Mans prototype race car (W194). It was ugly then and is still ugly today!
For comparison with more contemporary automobiles, the new M-B AMG grill has unfortunate comparisons to a rather recent pedestrian Buick front grille....it is ugly as well!:
Of course, we all are entitled to our opionion and to each their own......

Very nice. I like it and the color without the side steps. Looks sharp! Also like the choice of other vehicles. Similar garage toys too… enjoy the new ride!
Btw, closed a deal today on the most optioned one I’ve seen of all the ones I’ve found (even some options I would never choose if ordering). Same color and only 9 months old but first saw it when it was 7 months but was patient and got the deal I wanted. Now I just need to go get it.
