How to get Pops & Crackles on New AMG GLE 53 Coupe

Hey everyone, I recent purchased a 2021 AMG GLE 53 Coupe, I have the performance exhaust, but I wanted to know how do I get those nice pops & crackles. I have it in sport + with exhaust on powerful. I hear some muffled crackles, but nothing like in some of the YouTube videos I've seen with other GLE Coupe's. (And yes, I know some people have modified their exhaust, but I'm not talking about those,) My car is spanking new and I just hit 1000 miles so I was able to put it in sport +, but is there something I need to do to get those nice pops and crackles? Im new to this forum but I figured this would be a great place to ask.

If you use the paddles for down shifting, you will definitely hear them. Mine also sounds very aggressive during hard acceleration, not as loud as my old C63 but still a decent sound...

Ok great I'm going to try that. But I have also seen videos with the car parked and they would rev the engine and you would hear the pops and crackles then as well so curious why im not getting the same results?

Mine seems to do this in the garage. Are you sure you have the exhaust open? I set it all up so when I select my Individual setting, exhaust is open and I am in Sport + mode.

Yup Im in sport + with open exhaust. Is there a certain rpm I need to be at to hear it more? My car is new, and I only have 1020 miles on it, so not sure if that matters, in regards to breaking in the engine?

I have about the same mileage on mine. I just went out to get groceries and got aggressive with the gas pedal in the garage and it definitely cracks and pops. My neighbor looked over to see what I was doing so it got his attention.

I just spoke to my sales guy at MB and he said Im not aggressive enough. He said I need to get more aggressive with the pedal. I will take it out again and get a little more crazy. I not skilled enough to drive with the pedal shifters so I won't venture in that world yet, don't want to mess up my engine.

The vehicle won't let you do stupid things like over revving the car. it has a fuel shut off if you try and over rev so don't worry about that part.

Would it be possible to send me a quick video of your exhaust making the pops and crackles while parked? It would be really helpful to compare to mine and if anything I could show this to my dealer for comparison.

not sure if this works on the GLE53, but on my 5.5L GLE63s, if i go to 2nd or 3rd gear and hold the revs high + feather it will burble like a machine gun

all you have to do is put the car in individual mode. Get to 3rd gear first and when the car is slowing down don’t step on brake but watch it go to 2500-2800rpm then hit that down shift. Or stay in 3rd gear and step on pedal to 4500rpm and left go of gas fast

Exactly. First make sure the vehicle is in individual-dynamic mode (or sport +) with the exhaust on powerful. Second, drive the heck out of it. The transmission and ECU need to adapt to how you get on the pedal and you actually have to step on it to 4500 rpm’s (in 3rd or 4th) then let off of gas fast to get it to learn. I actually had to redo this after I ran out of fuel and my check engine light went on. I believe the ECU reset or the car had a wtf moment. The vehicle stopped the downshift pops and crackles for 3-4 weeks. After driving the sh** out of it and a few driving (learning) cycles, it came back. Now whenever I rev or downshift in any gear I get the pops and crackles. They never disappeared on the upshift only on the down.

So I’ve had mine for a yr now- it was good then it just suddenly went away, spoke with my dealer and they can’t explain why it went away. It definitely kills the fun in sport mode, any it seem no one has an answer for why it would not crackle/ pop.

Interesting, I just got my pre-owned 2021 GLE63 (4,000 miles) about 6 weeks ago and the first couple of weeks when I was showing off the exhaust sound, I got the pops and crackles. I was once again showing off to another friend last week and noticed that the cracks and pops weren't there.. I've had the exhaust in powerful mode, but maybe didn't have it in sport. Will have to see if that brings back the crackles. So much fun regardless, I look forward to driving it every time.
