an example of comparing the 21" Original Equipment for the front of a GLE53 vs. one of the 20" options that Tire Rack identifies. It is for the MSW Type 30 wheel which has an offset (ET) of 45mm which is the only wheel that has an offset close to the 57mm that Mercedes lists. All of the other wheels that Tire Rack lists have offsets of 30-35 which is questionable.
You'll see from the PDF that "Suspension is 100% clear" and the tire will "stick out 6mm (0.2") farther. Acceptable for most cars." In fitting aftermarket wheels for previous vehicles, I've found that a common problem is that the wheel spokes do not clear the brake calipers -- there is not enough curvature in the back side of the spokes to provide clearance. This is mostly a function of the wheel design and aside from the ET, I'd be sure that this is OK.
