I was unhappy with how the front tires throw slush and debris onto the side of my GLE so I reluctantly decided to try mud flaps. No one seems to make flaps for an AMG GLE so I ordered generic flaps through Amazon (Husky Long John Mud Flaps, 12"x36"), trimmed them with a Skill saw and attached them with push-in rivets, photos below. These may or may not help -- TBD.
Also I painted the wheel hubs with caliper paint 'cause Mercedes only paints these with a light coating of what seems to be primer which quickly deteriorates. This allows the hubs to rust and look really ugly. After only 300 miles, the hubs had some rust which I treated with rust discover, photo below.
Jacking the car and removing the wheels was a real challenge and I'll make a separate post on that ordeal.
@slk55er Gordon, I usually put flaps on our cars, and since I opted for No Running Boards on the 53, I've been snooping around for some. Looks like you've found an answer with the Husky universal fits.
Let us know how they stay put with 6" of slush caked to them. Good luck!
@slk55er did you drill new holes for mud flap ? Or they all existing push in rivet holes ?
I drilled holes into the lip of the fender wheel well flares.
After positioning the flaps with duct tape, I marked the flaps for trimming and for where I thought all holes in the flaps should be. Then I drilled all holes in the mud flaps. I then positioned the flaps again and drilled the upper most hole through the mud flap and into the fender flare. I then installed that push-in rivet and completed drilling the other 2 holes in the edge of the flaps into the fender flares. After installing those two push-in rivets, I then drilled holes through the holes in the flaps into the wheel well liner. Of course, I was reluctant to drill into the fender wheel well flares, but these could be filled and painted and be pretty invisible if things don't work out.
