Ignition switched 12V supply for radar detector

Best thing would be to hardwire it to a ignition controlled fuse position, but I know that’s a hassle. I plugged my dash cam into rear passenger USB-C port, tucking it in the center console carpet and under the dash. It’s ignition controlled. I think all of the USB-C ports are. They make cigarette lighter to USB-C power adapters as well.

There have been reports on Detector Forums of people using a heated mirror circuit and overloaded the circuit when the heat comes on. Not reported on Mercedes as far as I have seen, but your BMW is one reported.

I used the cigarette lighter in the center console for My Valentine V1. I ran the power cord across the passenger foot well and inside the windshield molding to hide the main wire. A separate wire is run to the remote display mounted on the steering column. A disadvantage is that the cover for the compartment in the front of the center console will not close but otherwise this is an excellent solution.
