Tires on Vehicle at Delivery

So which ones do people find a better option when their GLE AMG was delivered, the Yokohama Advan or Michelin Pilot Sport? Does one handle better, lower noise, last longer??

This may be more of a personal preference, but I would prefer the Pilot Sport 4S everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. I have them and they’re great tires: quiet with tons of grip. The only downside to Michelins, at least from my experience, is they do tend to get a little noisier as they wear down.

I had the Advans on my 53, and they were amazing. Tons of grip and they handle like a dream (and also super quiet), with the downside that they lasted me 14k miles.
I think you cannot go wrong with either tire. Like @Frenetic said above, it may come down to personal preference in the end.

Cheers,

14k miles is a downside? I get ~7k per set on my C63 if I'm lucky, so 14k sounds pretty good to me. When I placed the order for my GLE 53, I was talking to the SA and he told me I could probably expect about 12k miles out of performance tires, and if I got some that weren't asymmetrical (or directional), I could squeeze a bit more since I could do a side-to-side (or in-out) swap.

I don't know how much I trust the SA, what are you guys seeing from a typical set of tires?

Well relative to 7k, it sounds good, but 14k for a set of tires is still not that great for me...

No, I know... 14k in most contexts is pretty awful, but as we all know, MB cars are notorious for going through tires. 14k is actually on the higher end of what I've heard for this car... so just curious if that's everyone else's experience, or what.

Yeah, I get that and agree. From what I've seen here, 12-14k is around avg (on the Advans at least).

The tires that Mercedes specify for their performance cars have a much lower wear rating.Advan's have a UQTG of 240 AA A. My Conti 21's have a rating of 480 A A. That's double the mileage expectancy. And my A traction reading is 15% less than the AA rating of the Advan's

Streetable tires intended for track use have a UQTG below 100.
At the track, my 480 UQTG Conti MO-1s are insufficient for a 5000 lb SUV at 1G. I really need something below 100 to stand up to track use.
I have about 16,000 miles on those tires, and they have 6/32" left of the original 9/32, and they haven't been babied.

If you're looking for better mileage from your tire, look at a Grand touring Tire instead of a performance Tire. Could be double or even triple the mileage.

Here's a good article from Yokohama about Tire ratings and how they are established, as required by the NHTSA. It involves G ratings on different surfaces.

Great post. My new Pirelli Scorpion Zeros have a UQTG or 500, so about twice of my prior Advans. Hopefully that translates into 30k tires. We shall see.

Thanks.
Yes, the Pirelli Zeros are touring tires, and their P Zeros are performance tires.

Once you get a few hundred miles on them, I'll be curious if you feel the responsiveness is still there.
Sounds like you have a good solution.

Advans are 240 rated - I have about 20,000 km and the rears are toast. The Michelin’s are 320, so I expect they’ll do a bit better. Advans are quiet though, I’ll give them that.

That's about 12.4k miles, so just about right. Mine still had a few thousand miles left on the fronts, but the rears were toast as well at ~13.9k. Yep, very quiet indeed. Great tires.

Took me a while to fight through online sales sites to confirm the Pirelli all-seasons in “our” size still are out there, so I went to the source (Pirelli Canada):

https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-ca/...son/285_40-r22
https://www.pirelli.com/tires/en-ca/...son/325_35-r22

I’m going this way after this coming winter — but would love to hear any further feedback from you and others, @Neurobit !

@Charcharius So far so good, although I've not driven on any freeways since I got them last Friday (I have a stupid-short commute, less than a mile, so my bubble is pretty small during the week).
I will def drive it a lot more this weekend, but as far as city streets, grip and handling seems to be on par with the Advans, whereas the prior Nittos were horrendous, so you truly get what you pay for when it comes to tires.

I wish MB would offer 22" all season tires from the factory...
I just placed my order and they had all season as an option for the 21" wheels but not the 22s, sigh

Working with my dealer now to see how much it'd cost for them to buy and install the pirelli all seasons for me.
I'm hoping i can get some kind of a discount if they work with a tire shop that would gladly take whatever brand new performance tires my GLE comes with.

I don't believe Mercedes has developed MO All Season tires in 22" fitments. Or MO-1, for that matter.

Let us know if they interested in selling non-MO tires. Every time I purchased from a dealer, they've beaten Tire Rack prices.
