Extended Warranty offer from Autonation

I bought my 2018 GLE63s about 4 months ago from Autonation. The car did go in once for warranty work (Cam covers/seals) which cost about $2,200. The Autonation 3 month/4k mile warranty covered that. Now I'm out of warranty and they are offering me a 5 year warranty that goes to 108k miles ( I have 58k miles currently) that covers bumper to bumper everything with a $100 deductible. The price is about $13,000 which seems high to me. I have several cars and typically only put about 2-3k miles per year on a car (I plan to do the same with this car). I have to imagine that this car can last another 10-15k miles in the next 5 years without costing anywhere near that amount to maintain. Plus, I typically do much of my own work (so far i changed the oil/filter, air filters, transmission fluid/filter, spark plugs, brake pads and fluid).

Am I crazy to decline this warranty offer or is this a normal warranty price? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

That is NOT a normal warranty price, reach out and I can provide you pricing from our two providers, Freedom Warranty and Fidelity. My guess is you'd be about $5K for 5 years up to 100K miles, $100 deductible. Both providers are accepted at all Mercedes-Benz dealers and licensed independents in the country.

Autonation (IMHO) is thriving (as a publicly traded company) on employing exceptionally (a.k.a. special) dishonest people in this generally one of the most dishonest industries. Unfortunately it is true.

The car biz is about the most transparent industry we have. I don't think it's a dishonest Industry, although there are some questionable players.

IMO the complaints come from the negotiation process.
But that's inevitable, since the Feds eliminated set pricing on cars, and pickups more recently. They called it "Price Fixing" in the 70s (60s?) and that's why we have MSRP, "Suggested."

Here we're talking about an extended service contract, using the same tactics as a Sirius radio, your newspaper or YouTube - a reduced rate trial period with an escalated renewal.

Whenever you spend or sign, Buyer Beware. At least we have the tools to evaluate auto transactions.

BTW AutoNation is not "thriving." "Awkward Financial Situation" might be closer. Not as bad as Carvana though.

I was referring to when Mike Jackson was running the ship a few years back, not now. Haven't bought anything (both cars and warranties) from them for the last several years. Service though is a different story - they bought so many MB dealerships under their umbrella, that they're becoming (or already became, location dependent) the only game in town.
