Red lines in Speedo

Recently picked up a 2021 GLE53 for the wife and spending some time figuring out the “tech” changes since my last C63. What are these red lines in the speedometer? They don’t seem to have anything to do with any speeds I’ve been driving.

What are these red lines?

Speed limits (but not the current speed limit you are driving) those are speed limits in general. Which as you can tell 35 mph and 55 mph.

Forgot to mention, if you remember back in the days, 55 mph was a national speed limit, and 35mph was a national speed limit as well for USA but was way back then.

As said above, these are speed limit reminders for the prevailing speed limits in the country you are driving. It marks the highway and in-town speed limits and depending on the country may mark other limits such as surface street limits outside of towns. This kind of thing has been there for a while, even on analog speedometers, but now with the digital speedometers it can automatically adjust if you cross a border.

If you've ever driven across Europe for example you may have noticed that as you cross into another country the navigation system displays the prevailing speed limits as a reminder and marks them on the speedometer. Since speed limits vary quite a bit between different countries in Europe, it's helpful, even though there are signs at the borders informing drivers of the speed limits in the country they are entering.

For example you see this sign when entering Germany.

Thanks for the info guys. I really had no idea what they were since they never changed,
whether I was in town or on the freeway.
