2024 GLE53Coupe: 21" or 22"?

Hello All!

I am looking at 2 incoming 2024 GLE53 Coupes and trying to decide between them. I could really use some advice.

Both are Alpine Gray and both have the Night Package. One has 21" wheels (with black accents) and the other has the 22" forged black wheels. I'm trying to decide which one.

I love the look of the 22" black rims! I live in a warm climate, so I don't have to worry about snow. However, the dealer told me the 22" tires will only last for 15K miles, if I'm lucky. Is this true? Are the forged wheels better?

I was thinking that if I went with the 21" wheels, I could get them powder-coated or wrapped to be black. Have you ever done this? Is it durable?

I would appreciate your insight!

I've got 24k on my 2022 22-inch MPS PS4 MO1 rubber. It'll go 30k no problem. Maybe more. Unless you really push the car hard on the pavement. I'm not a timid driver and this car seems to encourage corners at top speed.

Thank you jaxslk. I had read on another thread that it depends on the wear rating, or something, of the tire? I'm with you on the cornering!

Yes, tire treadwear rating is a relative score given to a tire as an estimate of tire longevity.

What tires come with the 22" option? If Michelin Pilot Sport, they are rated for 30k miles and Michelin will stand behind that.

The salesperson looked up the VIN with the Parts Department and the 22's come with Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. 30K would be wonderful. And THANK YOU for the information, djgiovanni!

So I decided that since I likely won't have to replace tires every 10-15K miles, I can't live with the 21" rims because they aren't black. The 21's only have black accents. I don't want to get in the endless cycle of painting rims. So 22's here I come!

What is the ride quality like on the 22's? I think I read somewhere that forged rims are up to 30% lighter than cast. Will that make any difference in quickness?

If you get the ARC, the ride quality will be better than 21's without.
Otherwise the 53 with 22's is pretty firm.

I don't see where ARC is an available option on the 2024 GLE53C4. Looks like it's standard on the 63.

In my build sheet, I have these lines under Standard Accessories:
215 Adaptive Damping System Plus
U88 AMG DRIVE UNIT

I hope that helps since ARC doesn't seem to be a current option.

Do you think the car will be a little quicker with 22's?

You are good to go then.
Had these on my Audi and at 22k I needed replacement. Contacted Michelin and they took care of it at no charge.

If your vehicle is equipped with ARC, you will love it. It is firm when in Sport/Sport+ mode and soft in Comfort.

Yes, isn't that standard on the GLE53? In fact, I think I read that there are now 7 settings? I'll know soon enough.

I found on my GLE43 that I used "Slippery" a lot in rain storms. The tires are like water-skis in a heavy rain. LOL!

Thanks for the great information, djgiovanni!

I have 21’s and they are plenty big with red brake upgrade. Bigger wheels don’t last as long, are more expensive and are easier to damage with curb rash

Standard on the GLE63s only. Option on the GLE53 (~$5-6 K ).
