Will deleting a muffler void the warranty?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, so please don't beat me up if this was already discussed. I've got myself a V8 (2022 GLE 63S AMG) and would like to delete the muffler to make it sound better. Just the muffler itself and not the catalytic converters (or whatever they're called), so the simplest upgrade.

I asked my dealer about the warranty but they did not give me a definite answer. They said it might but it might not.

I was wondering if anyone else had any experience with this type of a thing. If this is an old topic, please point me in the right direction, so I can read on it.

Thank you!

Typically you're not voiding any warranty because the mufflers (the exhaust for that matter) is not a covered warranty component.

I agree with your dealer - it depends. Should you have a major engine failure, Mercedes could claim that a change in exhaust backpressure from muffler removal contributed to the failure, and deny your claim. On the other hand, most warranty items not related to the modification will still be covered. And I believe the muffler is covered by the warranty (for defects in manufacture), but not for normal wear / aging / corrosion.

As said above, the warranty is not one thing that you either lose or don't. Most manufacturers will deny warranty work on the powertrain if you modified it in any way, but they will continue to honor the warranty on unrelated items.

It used to be that modifications could affect the warranty on engines or drive trains, downstream of the modification. This may not apply anymore.

There's nothing downstream of the rear mufflers, but as @klaus560 says, back pressure or wave fronts might affect engines.

It might depend on what the service manager thinks. Ask him.

I know my service manager services a lot of Brabus cars, and I wouldn't hesitate to ask him.

Thanks everyone for your input. Yes, I am aware that the warranty is not one thing but as a few of you pointed out, a dealer could technically deny some kind of an engine failure warranty claim. Which would really suck because I assume this type of work can be very expensive. I will try asking my dealer again, but I don't think they will say either yes or no.
