Burping vs farting

Prior to purchasing my 24 GLE53, I test drove a 2020 E53 and man was I impressed! The exhaust note was even louder than my 21 GLC43 and I couldn’t wait to get into a brand new GLE53. Because my newly purchased GLE53 was a figurative virgin ( < 1,000 miles), I didn’t want to push it to evoke the “farts” I so enjoyed with my 21 GLC43, but so far the 24 GLE53 has been low keyed vs the 2020 E53 I tested. I must admit the 24 GLE53 emits a very satisfying continuous low volume growl, even more so at idle than the 43, surprisingly with and without sport exhaust activated.

Now with 1,000 miles on my 53, disappointment remains when shifting: previously I could “goose” the 43 at shift points to get a very loud crackle and still keep speed below limit. However, the 53 is so powerful that goosing it just snaps your head back into the headrest and then the 53 merely burps instead of farting like the 43, no matter the shift point.

If anyone has a technique to goad the 53 into passing more gas when shifting, both literally and figuratively, please share.

Ship out your DME to Finland. Get it unlocked then add a burble tune. And youre set.
Or other option is to remove a resonator or get a aftermarket downpipe.

Hmmm, that is interesting, I didn't know that GLE 53 sounded that much different to the E 53. To be fair I did expect it to sound different but not to the way you described it, for example a C 43 sounds different to a GLC 43.

As for trying to get the sound back out, I would recommend an EVM (exhaust value module) it is not going to blow you away but at least it sounds louder on lower RPM range. Another thing is to drive it in sport+ more often and at higher RPMs often when the engine and transmission is warm, the car probably learned the calm smooth driving you had during break-in. It will then slowly open back up. If you don't care about warranty though, downpipes and exhaust modifications, burble tune, etc. will be next on your plate.

My $0.02 is not the difference in 53 models but the difference in model years: 2020 vs 2024, where EU nannies can exert more control over sound levels.

We dont have an option of pulling a fuse out that regulate the exhaust valves and this would keep them continuously open?

Honestly not sure but doesn't hurt to try and explore around I think?

You could always plug a bypass plug but the reason why you might not want the exhaust fully open all the time is the drone on the highway or waking up neighbours in the morning.

It doesn't list the GLE 53 though, you might need to email them: https://burgertuning.com/products/va...r-bypass-plugs
