Winter/AS tire on the 22 inch rims

Hi all, I am newbie here. Nice to meet you all!

Owned 06’ ML350, then traded in for 13’ ML350 (current car). After many years of ML, I decided for a nice upgrade and ordered a 24’ GLE63S SUV back in May this year. Unlike other lucky users who is getting their cars in the upcoming weeks/months, not sure how my local dealer only managed a December build date for my May order. Anyway, dealer said it will arrive likely in mid-January.

I live in NJ so now I have to deal with dilemma on the 22inch summer tire. I did a bit research in the forum; it seems A/S is hard to find for the 22inch rims. I just found like three tires can potentially work on the rim

1. All season Pirelli Scorpion Zero but the rear 325/35R22 was shown as sold out. I believe some users even mentioned they are discontinued

2. All season NITTO NT420V, similar story the rear is either discontinued or sold out.

3. Pirelli Scorpion Winter – They are in stock at Tirerack. Dealer said they should work but they don’t carry them so I can get them myself and dealer can do the swap when prep the car for delivery.

285/40R22 110W XL

325/35R22 114W XL

Any advice? The winter tire will run me like $3k but I can just use them for winters?

I strongly recommend getting tires with the MO-1 AMG designation.

I don't think all season tires would work reliably for you in New Jersey if it's a daily driver.

I have been impressed with my Pirelli Winters (21"). They handle remarkably well in the dry, are pretty good on black ice, but I haven't trudged through deep snow with them.

I got mine through the dealer and saved $150 compared to tire rack. Are the tire rack tires MO-1? Did you ask if your parts department could order them, and if, so how much?

Good luck in your quest. Don't wait too long because supplies have been snapped up early the last couple of seasons.

Maybe you can ask the dealer to install your Winter tires and store the Summers for you. Perhaps they'd give you credit as takeoffs, if the car arrives with a brand you don't want.

Big thanks for your reply! My dealer has been pretty muted on this. I asked them on winter or AS tires. They said there isn't any for this size. I guess they are referring to no "MO1 mercedes" tires. Now as you mentioned, i went back to tirerack.com, none of the AS or winter I found was rated as MO1 mercedes. Dealer said they could order and swap but they actually came in higher than what I found online. I can order myself and bring them in before delivery of my car. Say if I take it easy in winter since we have another car with winter set up, can the car ride on non MO1 benz approved tires for normal use? The load and other ratings seem fine? Did I miss something? Thanks again!!

You don't have to buy from your sales dealer. Check other ones nearby for the best price:

Thanks! This is really helpful.
24' GLE AMG models and 23' 63 model were not listed but I think the 22' 63 model is essentially the same. Found the the winter Pirelli winter with MO1 cert. Those 22s are pricy, lol. There are ones listed not as MO1 certfied, and I can get it much cheaper from tirerack or DTD.

Anyone has any experience with the tire and rim insurance (first class wheel and tire protection) offered by dealer, what happened if you swap their original tires to your own? Will they still offer covarge as long as they are benz approved tires? Do I have to buy from dealer and have them install them?

Thank @mikapen . He's always telling people to cross shop the dealers and I never would have thought dealer prices would be cheaper than a tire shop. 🤯
