Rattle In Rear Roof
I also have a clunk sound in the very back unrelated to this roof issue. There’s a thread on the issue and many others of us have. It an annoying noise that occurs when accelerating from a stop. The shop said it was the Rear Differential Actuator and the clunk sound was normal. I’ve never had a car do this and I don’t want one that does.
I am very unimpressed with Mercedes Benz. This was my first and last MB. I don’t think I have the metrics to file a Lemon Law claim, but, I do think I have a case where the car has impaired value. I have contacted MB via their online email form about this and asking for them to pay for the loss in value and my frustration. I would prefer they take this “clunker” back. We’ll see if they stand behind their catch phrase if “The best or nothing”.
Oh ya, it has some other electronic MBUX issues (loss of favorites from time to time and gesture control doesn’t work). It’s in the shop for that also.
if anybody has experience with similar issues dealing with MB or a referral for an attorney in the Dallas/Fort Worth area who handles these types of cases I would appreciate knowing.
Rear roof piece being cut out and replaced.
The new rear roof piece to be assembled.

My roof issue first started when it got stuck in the open position.
After about a full 24 hours of trying to get it closed, my husband was able to get it more than about 90% closed. But the left side was kinda hanging. We also went to 2 euro mechanics and was told by both the repair would cost at least $6k we were so upset. One mechanic actually told us the earlier Mercedes sunroofs were made differently and built to last. But in these more recent models the pano roof mechanism is built with mostly plastic parts and really only good for up to 50 open/close. After that you can expect major issues.
My husband and son were able to get it completely closed after almost 1 week of trying. I was so relieved. Left it closed and never tried to open again.
I hope you get your issue resolved without without too much expense.

As far back as 2001. (!)

Before the story - the crazy thing is that this is my 2nd 53, the first one I trade-in and paid the negative $ 10k because I didn't want to mess with lemons, and I didn't really understand how it worked back then.
Now I have a 2025 GLE 53 and it was the biggest mistake I could have made and damn me - I fell for that **** again.
I've been in for service once so far, and I've already scheduled a second appointment with the service. To make a long story short - kicking transmission, rattling sunroof, four-wheel drive not working and electronic systems not working or working intermittently such as keyless entry, cameras, wireless charger and so on....

When I expressed concern about so much surgery the dealer offered to not do it and to put the car back together. Then they can start work on the electronic issues. That was almost 2 weeks ago. They had 25 hours of work into it and got MB USA to pay for it. So, at least MB USA did something good. I have no idea when I’ll get my car, but the deal said later this week.
I’ll live with this car’s faults as long as I can, but there will never be another MB in my garage. I’ll bet that will be the same for you after you’re done with your 2025. A bunch of guys in my golf group also talk about the demise of MB quality.

Since MB USA does not respond to customers, I contacted the dealership’s GM. They got approval from MB to commence a buy back and we’re just getting started. There is no offer yet, so, I don’t know if I will find it acceptable. If so, finding an acceptable replacement car that’s already built may be difficult because I loaded mine up when I built it last year. They may have to do another build and I hope they are willing.
I checked with the State of Texas about their Lemon Law and they are willing to help, however, they would could not do more than force MB to offer a buy back at this point. So, if MB’s buy back offer is not suitable, I may involve the Lemon Law or an attorney.
I understand MB has been falling in quality surveys and I can see why. I am leary of getting another MB because there are other issues with my car, but this may be my best option.
