What Tires for GLE63s? PS4s or Yokohama V107

Hello everyone,

need to buy some new summer tires for my GLE 63. The Pilot Sports are like 650 Dolar more expensive than the Yokohamas. Is it really worth the price? I won't drive on any Race track, mostly on motorway and in the city.

IME - the Yokos are trash. Always have been since 1996 when I got my first VR4. I tried them on my C240 (due to a milage warranty) - hated them. They came OE on of the the cars (BMW or Audi????) - junk. There is a reason they are cheaper. I would almost rather get a Walmart brand tire than a Yokohama.

To be more precise. The rubber would "chunk" out of the treads. They got very loud with a bit of wear (way back in the day it was Yokohama AO28's). I cant say I have ever even met anyone who was happy with them. In general folks buy them for the price and are disappointed they did.

I’m pleased with the Yoko Advan’s I’m running on one of my performance car’s… When evaluating tires, make sure you compare manufacturers’ latest offerings equally, as tire technology is constantly evolving. The Yokohama’s of old didn’t stack up to many of the competitor’s offerings, owing to the fact that they were originally marketed on price targets and categorized as a ”mid tier” performer. The new generation of Yoko Advan’s are huge improvements as they are now worthy of comparison with the market’s typical top performers. Actual test data shows the latest Advan’s could be a reasonable choice:

The Michelin line has evolved as well, with the new PS5 replacing the PS4 that was originally delivered on our AMG’s. The PS5 reviews show it has much better durability without sacrificing the performance of the PS4.

You’ll have to weigh the cost versus performance and durability for your typical driving….

PS5

I do not believe the PS5 come in 21" or 22" yet

There are many more options that do that are more reasonable and some 22" that are all season. I still run PS4's but we have other vehicles we normally drive. If I keep it long enough for another set I likely will go to others as it is only driven like a car and never tracked. I just wanted all the options the GLE offers so I got the 63

I've had both - the Advan's were OEMs on my '21 GLE and the PS4s on a prior ride. I thought the Yokos did fine and I use "fine" not as a passive derogatory term. I don't track or even drive that aggressively so they were indeed...fine. Assuming the wear ratings were comparable, I can't imagine spending upwards of a 10%+ premiums for the PS4s. Regarding the Conti's Sport Contact 6, while the tire sizing was the same, when you view the specs, the actual tread width ran a bit narrower than the PS4s. Not sure if that's the case on the OEM sizing for the GLE but psychologically I always wanted the widest tire possible even if it was difficult to differentiate cosmetically.

If you really want to test your mettle, look at the Nitto all season 420V. It's a price point that's ultra appealing, comes in OEM sizing for the 22" GLE wheel options, and has pretty significant wear rating over the summer rubber options. I'm running them currently with about 5K under the belt and unless something comes out that's more appealing, will consider repurchasing when the time comes. Again, I drive the 63 like an SUV, rarely exploring its limits with the exception of occasional throttle stabs and spirited cornering on clover leafs.

Good luck!
Eric
