As promised, here's the brake upgrade breakdown for that head-turning GLE53 AMG Coupe we featured last time! The owner was adamant about creating maximum visual drama while delivering uncompromising performance - and the results speak for themselves. What makes this setup truly special isn't just the jaw-dropping appearance (though those Akebono calipers are absolute works of art). The carbon ceramic rotors provide the perfect balance - they're significantly lighter than steel discs despite the larger diameter, reducing unsprung weight for better handling. Plus, they eliminate brake dust entirely, meaning those gorgeous wheels stay clean between washes.
Has anyone run the numbers on return on investment (ROI) for the carbon brakes over the stock? Over the lifetime, it would be several replacements of pads, in the stock setup, and a couple of rotor replacements. The stock rotors’s ability to be lathe turned for warp, ridges and lips, is low, and usually results in replacement.
A lot of the members here would probably respond favorably to a ROI analysis that at least comes close to getting a break even scenario. If there was a positive ROI, so much the better.
Also, the carbon brake stacks I have operated, had a distinct process for warming them up, and/or drying them out if they were wet. Does your product have a recommended procedure?
