** NEED HELP!!! ** - OEM cross-spoke forged black wheel CNETER CAP issue

Hi all,

I'm having our new to us 2021 GLE63S paint corrected/PPF'd/ceramic coated, and we came across an issue with the OEM wheels. The center cap that removes isn't coming out right using the OEM tool. When we removed it, the outer portion/ring stays in (see photo).

The photo below is my wheel. The outer ring portion of the center cap (I thought these were one piece so really odd) stays in on all 4 wheels. I don't know if the tabs are worn out on the center portion or what.

The video shows how it should remove as sent to me by another GLE63 owner (as 1 piece): https://imgur.com/a/2021-gle63s-cent...0MI2Xm#zpYKsQn

Can anyone help!!!?? I don't want the detailers to damage the wheels, so I'd like to see what my options are before taking to the dealer.

Local dealership actually damaged mine when removing them. I assume the tool was slipping so it looks like they used slip joint pliers on the piece that came off yours to grab and remove them. They denied they did and said that as the tires had been replaced (many times) elsewhere they would not take responsibility. Even with the slip joint plier marks the center did not come loose from the part left in your wheel.
It looks to me to be threaded. I did not realize that was how they are attached to the rest of the center cap. If it is I wonder if I could just purchase the center pieces but then how to get them to apart as yours did without further damage?. Hmmmm
If it is threads I see...
I would likely use penetrating oil where it threads into the wheel and thread the center back on with blue threadlocker and give it time to cure and attempt removal as designed?

I don't wanna use thread lock before I go to the dealer because they'll say I messed with it. Was just hoping someone had experienced this and had an easy fix for these garbage plastic pieces on a $120k car

I'm not familiar with those Wheels or that type of center cap.
To me, it kind of looks like the threads are damaged in your photo. Like somebody who didn't know what they were doing damaged the piece.

Is it a CPO car? If so, you could say that they didn't inspect it properly and they owe you a working center cap.
If it's not a CPO, then ask the dealer how this could have happened and if they could warranty it, although it's likely out of warranty by time.

It couldn't be that expensive, I wouldn't think. It seems there's always something that needs work on a used car. You're already addressing the paint, as an example.

Yeah, I have an appointment on thre 18th. It is cpo and under factory cpo warranty still. The caps are pretty expensive. Since I got the car this way I'll definitely make that argument. I may ask for new wheels since they messed it up.

I came across this post that may be of some interest concerning the center of the center cap. Perhaps that poster could advise on removal

Took mine off. It appears it should come right off if you give a pull as there is no retaining I can see
