Venture into GL63

Hello all, I'm looking into a 2014 GL63 with 143k miles. It's had upper and lower control arms, spark plugs, radiator, 3 water pumps (little odd unless one was for intercooler?), front brakes and rotors, headlights, etc. I don't see transmission sevice at all or differential or driveline service. I currently have an R500 and CLS55 AMG so no stanger to Airmatic and have done all that work myself and am capable of handling most repairs. Would this be something to pursue or shy away from?
I appreciate your feedback any insights you may share.

I would want any high-mile bi-turbo v8 thoroughly vetted including a boroscope. They are known to eat cylinder liners over time and there are many oil leak points to be explored too.

Starter GL63

Read my post about starter replacement. The GL63 starter when it fails is a nightmare. You need to “pull the engine” to get it out at least according to the MB service manual and you’re looking at $4000 for the repair when it fails. There is a way around this as detailed in my post “but” you will need enginuity and/or tools. The root cause of the problem is MB did not make the starter removable unless the motor mount bracket is removed. You can only get to 3 out of 4 motor mount bolts as one is covered up by the exhaust turbo manifold. In order to get to the last bolt you need to “die grind” the bracket while on vehicle (rounding off a pair of nibs that a heat shield attaches to). Once that is done you can access the bolt but it will NOT be easy. I sourced a donor motor mount bracket from a wrecker. I basically removed the starter solenoid and old starter and then modified the bracket to get to the bolt. Installed the new starter and then the “new” motor mount bracket (again with nibs taken off) and an additional mod (making the bracket have the hidden fastener point be “c” shaped so it could be hung in place, then rotated and aligned. The three bolts you can access are tightened and then you tighten the last bolt with a stubby. It is very difficult. If you’re able to pull the engine that’s definitely the way to do it. If you are in a bind and don’t have time to DIY it be prepared to spend $4000 for the starter replacement. I was able to do it but it took me an entire weekend non stop for two days (and no I didn’t pull the engine but that’s what your up against). Read also my other posts. When the fuel pump fails you’ll get all sorts of codes. Read my post about the tank pump port hole mod. Also the high pressure fuel pumps. I have no issues at present with my GL63 but there is always “something” that is coming next. Not trying to discourage but suggesting you must be mechanically inclined to own this auto or your wife may divorce you. Expect to put $2000 per year in tires. They wear out yearly. It is definitely NOT a vehicle for longevity but drivability score is a 10.
