Hello! I’ve had the GLE53 now for a bit under 6k miles so I’m looking to do an oil change. I did one as soon as I got the vehicle and I used a MB229.51 specification Castrol oil.
However I’ve been using the High Performance MB229.5 AMG one on my father’s GLS500 (we’re European) and am livid with its’ quality.
I already purchased 2x5L and expected it to be approved for an AMG-badged vehicle albeit a non-V8 one. However I’ve since noticed that the MB229.5 specification is only advised for the facelift hybrid alteration of the GLE53.
Either way, the vehicle is out of warranty so it’s not like I’m risking voiding it due to wrong engine oil specification and I’m quite content with that oil’s performance so what brings me here is:
Has anyone used such oil in this engine

Stick with the MB229.51 oil. The .5 is an older spec and isn't optimized for your GLE53's engine, especially with its gasoline particulate filter. Using it won't cause an immediate catastrophe, but long-term, the .51 oil provides better protection for your specific engine. Don't risk it for a minor difference; use the correct oil.
