Help! Looking for After-Market Grill to Protect Radiator on '24 GLE53 Coupe
So, I am looking for an after-market grill that offers some protection. I have contacted LARTE about their after-market grills, but they are 8-10 weeks out and rather pricey. Here's a link to the site: https://larte-design.com/tuning-kits...c167-facelift/ The grills are available in carbon fiber and gloss black and seem to offer some modest screening.
Is anyone aware of any after-market alternatives that are US-based? I'm not having much success. HELP!
Less than an hour into my last leg, the coolant indicator appeared again. No dealerships nearby. So I bought several gallons of distilled water and periodically filled the coolant tank with that, often in torrential rain and severe lightning. Maybe the rain helped to keep the engine cool, but it was horrific. I'm fortunate that the engine didn't overheat, but it was a harrowing experience.
Once I arrived to my final destination, I brought the car to the dealership. At first, the dealership told me the radiator was defective. However, once they had the car apart, they found a dime-size dent in the radiator caused by "road debris". So, what I thought would be covered under warranty turned into a $3K bill. Talk about going from bad to worse.
Some folks on related threads have suggested going thru insurance, but I had so many comprehensive claims because of my fragile MB acoustic windshield - three in 2 years on my prior GLE43 - that it affected my premiums. I figured I had better address this outside of my insurance. MBUSA gave me some money toward the radiator repair, but they didn't cover their design flaw, and the repair was still extremely expensive. The whole experience was not "luxury" or "high-end" or any of the words typically associated with the Mercedes brand.
The exposure that the radiator has is unbelievable, now that I'm aware of it. The comparable BMW, the X6, has attenuating louvers on the grill. The Range Rover Sport offers great protection. I haven't looked at Porsche. This is a design element that Mercedes needs to improve.
I'm almost at the point where I am thinking about trading this car in. I don't want to, but I feel like I have a reliability issue. I can't see exposing myself to being stranded on the side of the road with another $3K repair bill. In an effort to avoid this, I would like to protect the radiator. I know it's important to not inhibit the airflow.
Any after-market solutions?
