Sold on 21" wheels...

After years of having many vehicles with 22" wheels and all of them being black forged. I went with 21" for a more comfortable ride and I can feel the difference. The Continental cross contact LX Sport tire is a very good all season tire. They're a more comfortable ride and will last longer as well. I also like the look of the twin five spoke with black accents which costs $200 versus $3,350 for the black forged. Just got tired of black on literally every car I had. These look good and they tie in nicely with the running boards. I realized I got this car for comfort and 22" wheels was defeating that purpose.

I chose same thing for same reasons, better ride plus more tire options.

Same reasons to buy as others- Tire options, ride and looks.
They look nice in motion, too. I watched as a Valet brought the car around, and the spokes kind of disappear, leaving two concentric silver rim/centers, with an "open" view of the big red brakes.

Edit- I was also surprised at the Continental cross contact LX tires. I thought They work really well, responsive handling and good in the wet. Decent wear.
I hope Michelin comes out with the Cross Climate 3 in our sizes IN OUR COUNTRY!

I run the same rims in all black as my winter tires and I was just thinking yesterday how much nicer they ride compared to the 22s. When these winter tires wear out, I may very well switch to good A/S 21s and leave the 22s in my garage.

Since it snows up her in Mass, I opted for the same 21" AMG wheel / A/S tire setup as well, and I'm very pleased with the ride and handling too....not bad in the snow either.

I was thinking about ordering a new OEM 22" wheel / Summer tire set once I'm down in Florida full-time, but since hearing from many here that the 22" wheels give a rough ride, that and the GLE eats those expensive 22" Summer tires pretty quickly, I'm begining to think the $10K it would cost for a 22" wheel set just isn't worth it.

There's better tire selection in 21" than there was a few years ago, but price and selection is still better in 20". My eyes can't resolve the difference of an inch from 30 feet away, so 20" work for me.

20" wheels have clearance for the 6 piston red brake calipers? I was under the impression 21" is the minimum wheel size with those brakes

20" was the standard size on my G550. It's not equipped with high performance AMG calipers, so 20" might be too small for the red calipers.

They are original AMG rims that came off a 2022 GLE53AMG (Same rims as the original poster). I had them powder coated to all black. Tires are 275/45/21 and 315/40/21

When I was shopping for winter rims I recall there were a few 20" aftermarket options that did clear the brakes. I preferred the overall look of 21" so I ended up with these.
