EUROPEAN DELIVERY: 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK (Canada)

Exactly how far does that 7% discount go? I made a few calculations to figure out how much you actually do save with the European Delivery program.

All prices CAD; Includes MSRP + taxes, dealer fees, and cost of financing over a period of 60 months. Costs/Prices listed below are very accurate.

What do you guys think? Is it really worth it?

*Oh I forgot to mention the prices do include GST (5%) and PST (8%), with a $5,000 down payment. Initially, the numbers you see below are what it would cost to finance the vehicle in Ontario over a period of five years (60 months). Sorry if it seemed a bit unclear at first! Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

That's not how you calculate monthly payments, but for simlicity ok.

You also have to factor in the fact that you have to buy plane ticket and stay in a hotel. You prolly would not go to just pick it up, but also book a vacation.

Also, dealers might give you a better discount for the car on the lot sold in US vs. ED. Some dealers try to talk people out of ED, since they make more on non-ED's.

So pricewise I don't think it matters. You will end spending more with ED. But if you are buying a new car and want a European vacation, ED is the way to go.

How much freight cost, PDI and Canadian import tax, GST did you factor in? Do you know any modification needed for this car to pass Canadian standard?

IMO, the numbers above doesn't justify the ED unless you did all the homework and assess all the risks.

I think you dont know what ED is.
All of this should be covered plus insurance for 14 days in Europe so you can drive around. It's still Canadian speced car. ED is an opportuinity to drive your car in europe before it ships to Canada/US. You are still picking it up at your dealer and dealer will prep it. People who did ED love it. I would do ED if I had more vacation and money to stay in europe for 2 weeks.

It almost seems as if the 7% discount Mercedes-Benz offers really is just slightly above what would be expected as the invoice price.
Also, I based my numbers off of the Mercedes-Benz Financial website. I hope I'm correct.

Thanks for your clarification NYC.

7% will translate to $3-4K of saving (assume they give you 7% for options too but dealer charges will remain). Usually you get $1-2k discount when you buy here in Ontario w/o ED. So agree with NYC, if you do like to take an European vacation, you get more saving.

Jordanski 03-18-2009 02:03 PM

How much do you think dealers will discount for financing? Since most of the numbers I've been seeing on here are for leasing. What kind of monthly payments are really expected for those who finance?

From my experience, you decide lease or finance after you negotiate the price. Then dealer will work on numbers like int%, residue % and dp. So your monthly payment will really depend on these factors. I chose to use my personal LOC to pay as its interest % is lower than MB's.

If you really want to see numbers before sitting with the dealer, you can use an online finance calculator or even in excel spreadsheet.

I did a euro delivery on one of the first C32s back in 03. Back then your car had to be paid in full before it was released.....We did the Black Forrest trip for 3 weeks.....great times....

New to the forums, thinking about getting a GLK in the near future (might wait for diesel announcements). Was interested on picking it up in germany and go on a quick trip as outlined on the US website. When I inquired at the dealer in oakville about this, they told me there is no 7% incentive, and there are no trip packages available. Definately a disapointment. What they told me is that this is only good for someone who doesn't want to rent a car while in germany.

If anyone has another dealer that honours the US prices please send me an email.

For reference here is a link to the US website.

Thanks

With today's economy you are getting more than 7% off anyways, so ED does not save you anything.

So basically yea, the only benefit of doing this is not having to rent car in Germany or wherever you want to drive.

mrexcuse 03-28-2009 02:28 PM

In the states they are still offering 7% regardless of the economy, MB Canada just doesn't offer any incentives similar to what the US has. Gonna call a few other dealers to see if they have a different response, but I am 99% sure this is the case here.

NYCGLK 03-28-2009 02:51 PM

Oh...my bad, forgot it's Canada we are talking about. Good luck with finding a better dealer.

Your monthly payment is function of apr, loan amount and length.

so at 3.9% 45k for 60mo is 826 per month
if you put 10 k down, it's 643 per mo
if you rate is 1.9% then 45k for 60 months is 786.

If you have excel it's very easy to figure out you monthly payment

=pmt(int/12,nper,amt) where

int=apr(1.9% etc,)
nper= number of month
amt=loan amount

loan amout=price + fees + taxes - downpayment

if you are paying fees and taxes upfront don't included them above.

Then you can multiply you monthly payment by number of month and see how much you are really paying for the car.

Then if you subtract Price of the car and add back downpayment you'll see how much you are paying in interest.

I don't think you can order a Canadian version Benz through an US dealer. Your interest calculation might not apply either, because you have to pay your Canadian dealer when ordering the car for European Delivery. This could be as much as 3 months in advance of your delivery date in Stuttgart. I agree, if you plan on a visit to Europe this would be an enjoyable experience - trying out your new car on the Autobahn, visit the Mercedes and Porsche Museums, etc. etc......Go for it...

seraphsf 04-07-2009 01:35 PM

Are dealers willing to negotiate on the European Delivery prices?

I think I read elsewhere that with other manufacturers, you can negotiate a price between ED "list price" and ED "invoice". If so, that would tip the balance on the cost/benefit for me.

Manback 04-07-2009 03:53 PM

I ordered mine for ED delivery back in late Jan. I am in the US. I ordered:
Steel Grey
Premium Package
Multi-Media
Ipod/MP3 interface
Appearence Package
Price was around $41,500. I didn't think that it was to bad of a deal.

BostonPrince 07-18-2009 11:10 PM

Hi Manback,
Can you tell me more detail sof the European Delivery? was it worth it.Did you get the 7% discount?

it was a little more the 7%. It was 7% off the total msrp, then the $875 delivery fee was also removed as well. Stayed a week in Germany, got a full tank of gas while there. Gas ws right around $8 a gallon over there. We didn't have t rent a car for the trip either. It was fun

BostonPrince 07-21-2009 01:07 AM

Thanks a lot ManBack. My dealer tried to pull a bait and switch on me. Now changing dealers....Thanks again.

Long time lurker, first time poster...My understanding of doing an ED is that you get 7% off of the full US MSRP,no destination charge ( 875 ) and one free night in a choice of 12 5 star hotels, that seems to come out to 9% off.I also have read that MB has a deal with Lufthansa for tickets,I think it's 2 4 1......Is this correct ?

Have you been to MBUSA website?

Here's a pdf file that I have made for you to answer your query.
Also, please have a look at the link below to know about the program itself and different types of packages are available.

I was going to do EDP for Canada, and the 'menu' did not exist as to what you guys in the USA get. Also, for us it was more expensive due to no insurance coverage included. Wow. :rolf:

Enjoy!

Just reviving this super old thread to ask a question I could not find the answer to on the MB website: does Mercedes offer ED on all their vehicles, even SUVs? Just wondering because BMW seeems to only permit ED for cars.

Thanks.
