So far, I have connected a classic, a nano, and my iPhone and they all work great. I wonder if the problem is with the connection and/or cable?

only if you use iphone 3g, it will not charge and will pop up the msg saying to turn on airplane mode etc....
however, it will still play music.

my 1st generation nano worked perfectly. This works out i guess, since i don't want my iphone to be kept in glove compartment, I rather it have it upfront. My nano will be dedicated to my car.

I had a 3rd gen ipod that broke after being placed permanently in the car, the vibrations killed the internal HD. Aftermarket are selling parts to put in CF cards instead of HD in these ipods, much better and shock resistant.

Since its just going to stay in the car anyway and be in the glove box, maybe wrap with bubble wrap, or even hang from the top of the glove box. Don't know, just throwing it out there, might save your ipod.
