Pic Request of GLK with Trailer Hitch
Would any of you who got trailer hitch option mind sharing what this looks like. The GLK that I'm looking at (not literally) has that option, and I'd like to see what this looks like. I don't care much about this option, just want to make sure it does not ruin the look of the car. Thanks in advance.

sorry no pic. but a long story short, my salesman had a nicely equipt glk in dallas with all the options i wanted and it had the hitch. it was a deal breaker, in my opinion the hitch KILLS the look of the glk. plus you still have to buy a receiver and a ball. it's the huge black thing hanging off the bottom of the bumper. i ended up paying a little more for the fully loaded glk that was on the showroom floor and love the NO HITCH!!

I ordered my GLK with a hitch. I like bike rack on hitch vs roof and will give up bit of "show" for it.
I ordered the performance negative 20" wheels for "show" and I don't consider it a fashion hitch, blasting down PCH in Newport/Laguna with a hitch.
It's all personal taste,

I think if you were to go into an MB dealership there should be a few with the trailer hitch. I have to say the display of the hitch at the auto show was really not a eye pleaser. You will have to buy a fancy cap or something to cover it up.
I came across this website that carries a lot of after market stuff, it advertises as GLK but it looks like its for all trucks.

Just found a pic in the this forum. I did not even notice that hitch the first time I saw these pics. I think it's not that noticeable and if anything can be covered by hitch cover as leslielp indicated. Not a deal breaker for me and might come in handy for Uhaul trailer or bike rack.

Another thing to consider. The hitch comes in a package that includes wiring for a trailer and trailer brakes. It is very expensive (3 -4x) to add all of this afterwards. It also has many uses other than for pulling a trailer, like bicycle racks or a luggage rack.

My GLK in Arctic White has the factory Trailer Hitch, and even though it's not the cleanest implementation of a hitch on a vehicle, it is still relatively un-noticable. I am looking for a standard rubber 'plug' for the hitch receptacle, but they seem hard to find for the Class II type hitch; that will 'clean' things up somewhat. My son really wanted the hitch so that he could 'carry' bikes; snow boards, etc, and tow a small motorcycle trailer should he wish to.

To Hitch or Not??
If you can wait about a week, I'll send you a pic when I take delivery of my new Arctic White.
I figured that as long as I'm getting a great vehicle that also has cargo carrying ability, why not get my money's worth and take advantage of 3500 lbs towing capacity? While the mount is visible from the rear, it's flush-mounted from above -- and it's black, so it's really not that "wrenching" of a sight. AND -- you can always remove it later and use it only when needed. It's engineered for the GLK, so you may as well help your vehicle "Be All It Can Be" if the occasion ever arises.

Welded Hitch?
I don't know - - he may be right -- ask a SERVICE guy, though, not a salesman. Sounds like maybe the salesman doesn't want to wait for you to place a special order like for, say, a trailer hitch...

IMHO, hitch does not hinder the looks at all. In fact, I think its both practical and puts the U in SUV. This is not a sports car and we are not on "Sex in the city" Although I probably would never tow anything, I wouldn't mind taking a car with hitch if it "came" with it.

pic of GLK350 hitch
Here is a pic of a GLK350 with a hitch. This is the hidden hitch / draw-tite aftermarket hitch. Installed it myself - took 1 hour. This works on the AMG bumper as well (that's what is on the car in the photo).

I have the factory 1 1/4" hitch. I believe it came with the rubber plug to cover when not in use. In any event to answer 1 previous post new rubber 1 1/4" plugs can be purchased through CURT, or any good size trailer store. IMHO the hitch does not ruin the back end, rather accentuates the SUV design. I would prefer a 2" unit, more 'fit-right' tongues available. Had mine not come with a hitch, a 2" aftermarket one would be mounted. There are some MB salesmen out there that state that you must order the hitch and have it factory installed, or face wiring issues! BS... Most large hitch companies have developed wiring plugs that will deal with MB's wiring and not flag a warning in the dash.
my .02 ...and we don't make pennies anymore in Canada! (too expensive, LOL!)

Hello Capt Kirk - Thanks for your informative post. I recently bought a motorcycle carrier from the same company and am planning on mounting it on my GLK350 as well. How did it go with yours?
Have you by chance carried your Duc on it? That's what I'm planning for mine. Would appreciate any advice/thoughts.
