I couldn't find it there.

My guess is you can rip CD/DVD or use PCMIA adapter and trasfer music from computer on SD or CF card.

You place a CD in the CD/DVD drive and it will ask if you wish to copy it to the Music Register. Click yes and copying begins.

Silly question, can you directly play mp3 in your SD card thru the adapter?
More silly question, can you play MP4 movies either in SD adapter or thru MMI USB port?

Any MB media guru here?

yualfred,
I have no idea but my guess is NO to both.

Nick,
It's weird that music does not copy from card to HD. What format are you using? GLK's acceptable formats might very limited.

I'm not surprised MP3 cd does not have copy, there is prolly rip-only function. Does MP3 CD play at least? My guess is no to that too.

I believe that the inability to transfer music from a non-CD source is due to copyright issues; meaning only true original CDs can be copied, not other formats regardless of what type they are.

my guess is without trying is that you can only transfer audio cds to hdd, and not mp3 or data disc to the hdd probably due to the compression that is used when making a data cd. mp3 audio disc are copied differntly to the disc than an mp3 data.
So go buy a spindle of cdr and start copying and transferring.

I see what you saying and you might be right, but this reasoning makes no sense to me.

So if I copy my friend's CD it would work (which is technically illegal), but if I bought a song on itunes I can't copy it to my car.

Maybe burn the mp3 files to a CD as an audio cd on roxio/nero/ [your tool of choice]. Technically this creates a CD that you can play on any cd player. Has anyone tried to see if this works? I have no hard disk on my car so I couldn't try this.

i don't wanna be too negative, but then you double compress the audio signal when you do this.

why not just get a CF card for your mp3s? use the PCMIA adapter.

not only that, audio cd typially holds about 14 songs.... a cd with mp3 can hold about 150 songs.

which means that to copy over your mp3 collection of 1000 songs, you will need to burn about 70 cds... very inefficient.

I say either burn mp3 files on dvd or cd or use a CF card with the pmcia slot.

I have also couple of additional questions:
Can you rip music DVDs?
Can you change compression rate when you rip CDs or is it just one preset rate? If you can't change it how much space does ripping one CD take from the HD?

No, you can't. DVD-A can't be ripped.

No, you can't change compression rate. Not that I know of.

Sorry, All my CD collection has been ported to MP3s. The only thing I see Gracenote system as useful if one of my friend has a CD that I like while traveling together, I can rip it to my car system.

IMHO, if you have been using an ipod, you will probably never use the Gracenote system... Ipod easily best it with its portability and music management.
In terms of convenience,
Ipod > PCMCIA > Gracenote > CDs

not about to debate on itune but mp3 format is good enough for me. I have no use for WMA or other format.

DVD-A with Logic 7 is amazing Its surreal that HK can pull this off in a SUV. When compared with a Bose system on an infiniti M, the high and mid range is much more clearer but bass is somewhat weak if you are a bass head. Very good for classical and vocal genre.

What's going on with your GLK anyways? hope it worked out for you.

mp3 format is good, it's just ipod won't play certain other formats (if it thinks music was illegally downloaded). I also don't like the fact that you have to have itunes to put music on and off. My iaudio works like external harddrive, so you can just hook it up and drag the music files in. Also battery lasts for 20hours (not kidding, don't charge for weeks sometimes)

But anyways, working on the GLK, there is one coming to US on 8th, but it's going to CO, so I need to be approved for financing first so they can buy the car from that other dealer. Once things are more certain I'll post more details. If this works out I should have car in in 2 weeks.
