3 months in, 1900 miles, and a cracked windshield!! 7" long coming down from the top above the passenger. i didn't even hear a rock chip it! safelite auto glass has to call MB to order the glass, there are no aftermarket windshields out yet! no surprise!

Don't feel too bad because I was under 600 miles when something on the road took a chunk out of my tire and wheel, which resulted in a $1200 bill! Luckily I had the tire and wheel coverage because it paid for itself on this one incident!

oh man that sux, how much is that gonna run you? I'm assuming you don't have MB's or insurance coverage. Did MB say they can't repair it? When I was taking my GLK they said they can repair pretty big cracks (whatever that means). Good luck with the replacement, hopefully it won't happen again for foreseeable future.

Coopdogg, I have question for you. Do you have optional 20” or standard 19” wheel?

i didn't get the MB windshield insurance. i have to pay my $250 deductible and my insurance covers the rest. a friend said that cracks can be filled? but i'm wondering if it can't be filled because it cracked all the way the the edge of the glass under the rubber seal? i remember when i was at the dealer and they tried selling me all the different types of insurance, they said insurance companies will only pay $500 for a windshield? i just have to pay my deduct. and geico is paying the rest. so i think MB was trying to take me?????

I think MB didn't know what they were talking about cuz it depends on insurance company, maybe some will only pay up to 500.
I also went with tire/rim coverage which also covers the windshield and dents.
You don't get glass coverage with Geico in Texas? My friend in CT has glass coverage where you pay 50 dollar deductible, not sure what the cost in premium tho.

I see, but you mentioned that the deductible is $250 is that comprehensive deductible? Hopefully the replacement will go smooth and won't waster too much of your time.
Off topic, but since you have geico, have you considered the Mechanical Breakdown coverage, which is basically just like extended warranty (or even better as Geico claims)? I'm still thinking about it and trying to get more opinions on this.

You made me feel better about getting this insurance. I was more concerned with bubles in the tires on crappy NJ roads, but what you described is much worse.

yeah the comp. deductible. i am a little concerned with being a 2010, the glass guys may not know how to removed the window? i see there is a strip that covers the edges, hopefully they won't break that? i'm no glass expert too.
also, mine is a lease, so i'll be giving it back before the factory warrenty is up. if i decide to finance later in life, i will definately get an extended warrenty.

Did you at least try going to your local MB dealership and having them look at it? Since you said you didn't hear or see anything hit the windshield, could it be a defect?
I think it's at least worth a visit!

i was kinda hoping it was defective, but there is a very minor rock chip at the top of the windshield which caused the crack. it just sucks that it traveled to the edge. automatically makes it unrepairable.

sorry guys to hear about your mis-haps.
if a quality air deflector was available, this could have been avoided as the wind would "air-lift" the small pebbles.
If it was a "rock" chip then no cure for this.... damn rocks!
