GLK 350 weight vs. C350, C350 Estate

Just wondering where the extra weight of the GLK 350 vs. the C350 estate/wagon (available in Europe) is.

GLK 350 4matic = 4,036 lb/1,830 kg per. Merc pdf

C350 sedan 2wd = 3,615 lb/1,640 kg per. Merc pdf

C350 estate(wagon) 2wd = 3648 lb/1655kg
( source - http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Drives/...ontent-block=1 )

C350 sedan 4matic = 3,792 lb/1,720 kg per. Merc pdf

Therefore a C350 Estate 4Matic would be +15kg over C350 sedan 4matic = 3825 lb/1735kg

So GLK is 211lb heavier than the C350 Estate 4matic. I wonder where that weight is?

More glass and sheet metal due to taller roof?

Cool

my 2 cents...
it could be the wheels and tires as they are different size altogether.
and if you can check the gas tank size, that would be the other reason, perhaps?
If you really want to take some weight off, remove the spare tire and save about 40-50 lbs instantly!

I'm pretty sure GLK is about 4200 pounds, which was reported by various magazines.

I'd guess it comes from more sheet metal, bigger wheels and tires, tougher suspension and frame parts (again more metal).

Agree with all on more sheet metal. The C Class hood is much shorter (cowl height) than the GLK's so there is extra weight there, not to mention all the extra metal used for the taller doors, A pillars, B pillars etc. The GLK's suspension is much thicker and the camber arms, springs etc. are longer as well.
