European vs. North American Tire Size

In Canada and in the United States, GLK 350 come with 235/50/19 or 235/45/20 at the front and at rear. However, in Europe, if you are getting the sport package, you’ll get 235/50/19 at the front and 255/45/19 at the back. Optional 20” wheel are also available, which are coming with 235/45/20 at the front and 255/40/20 at the back. I'm assuming that the handling must be better with 255/40/20 at the back than 235/45/20? Any idea why in North America we’re getting deferent tires sizes than in Europe?

My guess is it's cheaper that way to keep price of GLK down, and possible to rotate and keep tires longer.

When time comes for new tires, I'm planning on putting 255/40/20 on stock rims all around.

The question is why not make 18's standard instead of 19's, I'd skip 20's in that case.

I think "fuel comsumption"..
Smaller wheel & tire would be better in this case.

This is just my thought...
If I am wrong then please correct me.

I don't also understand why 19" is standard for GLK in North Americas..
I think 18" is perfect size for me...
It should be hard to find alternative tire in CANADA.... 19" is too expensive.

For winter season, I am going with 17" winter wheel & tires.

Totally agree! I will also be going with 17" winter tires for the GLK. 19" and 20" are too expensive, even more so if you consider getting something other than the standard black steel rims for the winter tires...we'll need to investigate a possible group buy for those of us in the GTA...

+1. I am interested in a group buy for 17" tires and wheels.
