Pics at the Sindelfingen, Germany delivery location
Picked up our new GLK350 4MATIC in Metallic Palledium Silver at the Sindelfingen, Germany delivery location last Thursday. We arrived via train from our military posting in central Germany and were met at the Sindlefingen bahnhof by a Mercedes bus which took us to the Customer Center. A few pics follow:
Entrance to the Customer Center.
Gift Shop at the Sindelfingen Customer Center.
Factory tour (two hours) started in this briefing room. No cameras allowed on the tour. The Sindelfingen facility produces the C, E, S and Maybach. GLK is produced in Bremen and trucked down to Sindelfingen for in-country delivery. We toured the C-Class production facility where a new car comes off the line every 30 seconds. The C-Class is on the constantly-moving production line for 22 hours. Interesting tidbit, 98% of the work in the forming and body-building portions of the facility is done robotically. Robots do virtually all of the pressing, drilling, welding, fitting, bolting, etc. functions of putting the car's underlying frame together to include fenders, hood, trunk and doors. Even the modular sunroof is fitted and glued into position robotically! As is the entire instrument panel...secured by just two bolts which are also tightened robotically.
Pictures taken from the overhead viewing gallery. New vehicles are brought into this area after check in with the delivery folks. License plates are already on the vehicles. Personalized instruction takes 30 - 60 minutes and then you're on your way with a full tank of gas. Roughly 500 vehicles are picked up here daily, saving the delivery charge.
Here's our first look at our new baby which will join our two Porsches.
Plenty of free snacks and drinks in the gallery area. Additionally, the corporate dining room serves a wonderful buffet which is also free (just show your new vehicle pickup ID badge).
One last picture at the photo point in front of the Customer Center before we departed for a three day vacation at Lake Titisee in the Black Forest.
