front doors hard to close

We just traded in my wife's C320 for a GLK and noticed that the front doors are harder to close than you might expect. When we close them with the same effort we used on her C320, the doors don't quite close all the way, and then the doors won't lock. It's not just us, either. My wife took a friend for a ride, and her friend had the same problem when closing the door. We're going to take it back to the service department, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem with their GLK?

I would believe the SUV would have more heavy duty door locks.

it's normal....

i take this as a good thing. we have a w203 at home too (a 2007 c280) and you're right, my glk's doors are harder to close. when we first got the c280, we thought the doors on that car were also harder to close than our other cars. but the glk is even harder still. in fact, my friends almost always have to close the doors a second time with great effort. but i take great pride in the fact that those doors take considerable effort to close as they have this heft and solidity to them that reminds me that the car is a true mercedes. and when they do shut, the shut with a very metallic "thunk". and it's not just because it's an suv either. we have a 7-passenger nissan pathfinder at home and the doors on that truck are easier to close than either of our benzes.

i honestly don't think there's anything wrong with your glk's doors. they're just a reminder of the structural solidity that the marque puts in their cars. vault-like doors are just something that every mercedes should have (but didn't always) and i'm glad the glk has 'em.

I noticed the GLK has better door seals as well. Climbing in and out of the cars in the show room, the ML and GL have some of the worst seals in comparison to the GLK. This is a good thing, its a more solid build than your out going C class. Also keep in mind the doors themselves are much heavier than your used to opening and closing, so give them more effort when attempting to close them. *If its just one certain door your having trouble with, then there could be an adjustment that needs to be made.

How do you close your door? When you just lightly swing it, it should close perfectly fine, if it doesn't then swing it a bit harder. I my case I have to tell my friends to stop slamming the doors. It can be closed with pretty light effort imo. Go to dealer and try closing doors at another GLK.

I haven't noticed any difficulties. Just a 'normal' door closing (whatever that is). If it bothered me, I'd probably start by spraying a little silicone spray lubricant on the door hinges to see if that lessened the required closing effort.

Or, if it's convenient, ask your dealer re-lube the hinges.

It's air tight.. it's new too... Just crack open a window a little to let the air pressure out whn you close the door and it will close very easily.... it's 100% normal.
