got a glk loaner today... my thoughts

pros- does look good with the 20"wheels, drives well with good visibility, power retractable sunroof sunshade. power lumbar support in the driver seat, but weird they left a manual one for the passenger.

cons- encountered that annoying tailgate feature where pressing the remote the tailgate opens approx 6 inches then decides to close. the placement of the climate control was a bit awkward being that low. the center dash area looked and felt really cheap. they should add a retractable storage compartment, add some additional trim or something to break up all the black there. side rocker panels were scuffed up pretty bad, and i end up scuffing it up as well. just seems to stick out a bit too far. maybe if i got used to the car, i might not have that issue. lastly, i was never able to get a comfortable seating position. the placement of the steering wheel even at it's highest position was still too low for me, and i'm not sure if i'm the only one that feels that way or if others feel the same.

I must agree with the seating. I am used to North American cars where the seats are probably too cushy. MB's have the hard leather seats which is going to take some getting used to.

I disagree with the dash, i think the fit and finish looks solid, but then again, if you drive a 60k SUV, I can see how the GLK may seem to be not as refined. It is an entry level lux SUV after all...

my 3 test drives so far

hummmmmm... where to start?
looking to move from Japanese car to German is already challenging and trying to get used some of good engineering MB has to offer.

Being with your ML for long time compared to GLK is only a 'baby' entry for the MB family? I found the seats comfortable but different from regular 'cloth seats'. I agree that the center dash could use a little 'cosmetic' change, however, for the most part, you are not going to keep change your temperature control every few minutes, nor keep looking at the center console?

... to end... I am nearing in closing an order and I think this is one great MB! Just can't wait to get it soon!

the ml's center dash isn't much different. number pad buttons are raised, its a wood finish with a center storage compartment and it has the climate controls placed higher.

i find the interior to be fine, but a bit more refinement and it would add value imho

but i understand the placement of things are more or less a transplant from the c-class.

you are right, while i might not change and fiddle with the climate controls every few mins, the placement of the buttons and temp dial make it hard to quickly push a button as looking down its hard to see where the exact buttons are if you are quickly glancing at it.

i can understand also, when it comes to seat and steering wheel setting. it took me a little more than a week to find the right setting for both.

Haven't sat in a GLK. Is it the same seat as a C? Also, is the seat MB TEX?

I find the C's seat quite uncomfortable in terms of padding. Also, even though people claim the MB TEX is durable it just isn't pleasant to the touch.
